[Drama-Committee] SETS!!!!!!!
Hey Guys, Just an email about a very important topic...................................sets! Over the last couple of weeks we have been discussing this problem,we have suggested projection screens and canvas. These idea's have their own merits but the fall down in some ways. The projectio screen isnt suitable for a venue like the Venue, are expense, are extremely delicate, also it can't be used for the theatre in either(thats about 12,000 for something not that suitable)The canvas are interesting, they are easy stored ad would work in the venue, however they will lack variety and won't work in the Helix. I only realised these problems when i though about the play i am thinking off and realised we had nothing to work with.Basically it is a disgrace that other colleges have A THEATRE and DCU Drama don't even have a set.It is the same as if they took away the GAA's football team and then didnt find them somewhere else to play. I was talking to Lisa Muldowney, and she is trying to convince the Helix to give us some storage space but if that doesnt work out we could rent it The cost for a 20sq ft storage unit is €22.00ex. vat per week (if you pay for 1 year in advance you would receive a 10% discount).thats about a grand. The sets i would suggest would be similar to what we had last year but more, that we we could stand them up right to use in the theatre and on there side when they are being used in the venue.I was talking to john about this....each one of those flats would cost about 150,we would need around 6-8....a total cost of 2,000 grand including storage. What do you think,im hoping to ask Clubs and Soc Officer Joey Kavanagh if i can go to the SPC meeting to make our case. Without sets........drama really cant function. PAURIC -- www.dcudrama.ie

It would be great if we could get the storage space under the Helix, because apparently it's big enough to store, build and paint a set, and is never used. On 11/7/07, Conor Lynch <beardynoses@hotmail.com> wrote:
