[Drama-Committee] Minutes
Please read them guys, there's a lot of information in there. Susan :-) DCU DRAMA COMMITTEE MEETING * * *Agenda: **Sunday, November 25th, 2007*** * * * * - Ratification of last meeting's minutes - Any matters arising from the minutes - Conor's play for Semester Two - Booking dates - Musical – producer, director, choreographer - One Act Wonder Festival - Stars in Their Eyes - Comedy night - Turning the Hub into Grafton Street - Panto set - Equipment room clean-out - Training day - Clubs and Socs pictures for Lisa Muldowney - AOB *Apologies:* Yvonne *Absent:* Megan, Marian *Matters arising:* *- Alan and Pauric to sort out show tickets for Broadway* *- Fiona and Megan to contact Dave about the Masquerade Ball* *Conor's play for Semester Two:* - it's a comedy play - fairy-tale setting, but not like the panto - maybe put it on in conjunction with Robin's play *Booking dates:* - shows in Semester Two that we need to book dates for - Brendan has written a play based on the improvisation sketch for Galway - Romeo and Juliet and Vagina Monologues are happening in the same week - Joey Kavanagh's Disco Pigs - Fame the musical - Conor's play and Robin's play - Alan Flanagan might have a play as well - the Helix are charging €150 per night in the Space - we can have the Theatre for Week 8 or Week 9 for the musical *- Pauric to contact each of the writers/directors of these plays with a view to setting up a meeting in Week 11 or Week 12 to discuss what dates might suit them and their shows* *- Pauric to contact Molly Manning about dates in the Helix, especially for shows that will get an outside audience* *Musical – producer, director, choreographer:* - there has been some correspondence between Pauric and Olena over the past week - Olena's email to Pauric was very rude and condescending, she appears to be on a power trip, her attitude hasn't been in the vein of DCU Drama - she is taking on more than her role is meant to be - she was wrong to choose a choreographer without the director's input - doing dance auditions before singing and acting auditions is unfair, it's not right to exclude people who can't make these auditions before Christmas - we want to be inclusive, everyone should be welcome - Week 12 isn't practical, it's always in Week 1 or 2 of Semester Two - maybe instead of dance auditions before Christmas, have an information session for members interested in being involved in the show - Megan has put in the suggestion to hold a kind of boot camp the week before the auditions for people who can't pick dancing up so quickly - the producer doesn't have any say in casting, Susan and Alan didn't last year, Jamie and Eadaoin did the acting and singing auditions and Aine did the dancing auditions - we need to define the role of producer and let Olena know - it's the committee's responsibility and right to have an input in the production of the musical - the producer should have a good deal of input but major decisions need to be made by the director and go through the committee - we can't let her think she can go off and spend loads of money - she needs to know that every major expenditure has to go through committee first - if the show goes bad it will come back to us rather than her - Steve and John are both in the running for director - Olena has read both of their CVs - just because she can pick the director doesn't mean she's above the director - the producer and director should be on an equal level - tasks of the producer: the producer should - Get the tech team together (lighting, sound) and if hiring go through committee first - Promote and market the event, but expenses involved must be passed by the treasurer first, and any unorthodox advertising must be approved by committee first - Do what the director wants regarding set etc. - Get Pauric to advertise available positions in the announce drama so that they are opened up to all the membership - tasks of the director: the director should - Have creative control - Choose the choreographer, the MD and set designer in conjunction with the producer (the producer organises the applicants, but ultimately the director has final say) - Be in charge of auditions and casting - Decide on the style of the show and the look of the set - tasks of the committee: the committee should - Book the venue and the dates (only because we've kind of already done that) - we only really knew what the role of producer was when she started overstepping it - she is producing the show on behalf of the committee - producer = organisation - director = creativity - if Olena doesn't work out, maybe Steve and John can divide directing and producing between them - the director should be chosen by a combination of the producer and the committee - maybe we could meet with Olena and make the decision on the director collectively - if all of the committee meet with her she might feel like she is being ganged up on - we should just approach it diplomatically by saying there's been some miscommunication, we don't think we outlined the role of producer clearly - meeting between committee and Olena on Monday evening at 7pm *- Pauric to contact Olena about this meeting* - it's important for all of the committee to be there, be professional and friendly *- Susan to send out a text to the whole committee* *One Act Wonder Festival:* - there was a One Act Wonder meeting on Friday - St Pat's and Mater Dei have decided they don't have enough time to prepare and have pulled out - DIT and DCU are still willing to do it - still going ahead this Wednesday in DCU - three acts going forward from each college, six plays altogether - from DCU: definitely Olena's play (Best Overall Production at the LOAFS) and Conor's play (Best Script at the LOAFS) - the third play is between Alan's play and Susan's play, each director needs to find out if their cast is available and if they both are then just pull it out of a hat *- Pauric to contact Olena and Conor to confirm that their plays will be performing on Wednesday night and Alan to check if his cast is available* - need someone to handle tech because Declan can't be there *- Declan to contact Adam Murphy to see if he'll do it* *- Alan to tape the DCU plays, not the DIT plays* *- committee to meet at **6:45pm** on Wednesday evening* - starting at 7:30pm - at the moment it costs €4 in but maybe we could bring that down a bit - it's priced at that to cover the cost of the judges - Megan is organising food in the nuBar for afterwards *- Megan to email the committee with all the details* *Stars in Their Eyes:* - we will offer Siobhan Byrne two complementary tickets - all the acts' introductions have been recorded - going to show the blooper reel during the judges' deliberations - MPS are organising the screen from Educational Services - Greg is going to do his act during the judges' deliberations also *- Megan and Alan to go into town tomorrow to get raffle prizes* - we will bring the stage up closer to the seats, it's more intimate and gives more space backstage as well *- Alan to make tickets* - a stamp would be cool if we could get one *Comedy night:* - in the Old Bar at 8pm on Thursday night - Alan, Fiona and Brendan are going to sing Avenue Q songs - Bob is hosting Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Pauric is going to talk to him during the week about the format of it *- Pauric to ask Dawn if she will do some stand up on the night* - Pauric has some short movies that he made with Dallan and some Cavan friends** - we could put them on if they're not too in-jokey, in between the main parts of the evening - three main parts, so two videos - charge in €1 *- Conor to make posters* - the only tech needed is a projector for the movies, which we can get from Educational Services *Turning the Hub into **Grafton Street**:* - Wednesday afternoon, 2pm to 4pm - we have been funded €30 for face paints, €10 for sponges, and €20 for balloons *- Alan and Megan to pick these things up tomorrow when they're in town* - Marian is going to do face painting and balloon making - Pauric is going to be a mime - John and Dearbhla are going to do some busking - Juggling will be there - Art will be there too - the SPC are judging Arts Week based on the best contribution to the week - there will be €500 to be divided between a few societies *Panto set:* - the backdrops website said it would take three to four days to deliver, but when Pauric rang them they said it would take fourteen days *- Pauric and Declan to organise the building and painting of a proper set for the panto* - the boards will need two or three coats of white paint, by Wednesday at the latest *- Pauric to contact buildings about painting behind the Old Bar* - need to get definite people to do it, in order to avoid being up till 4amthe night before the show opens *- Pauric to include a call for helpers in the announce drama* - need someone to design the set - could just copy the design that we were going to order for the backdrop - one design for the back of the stage (the palace), one at the side (the marketplace), and a papier mache structure on the other side *Equipment room clean-out:* - Cian hasn't given us a definite deadline, but it needs to be done soon - the SPC want a list of everything we have in there and what we need *- Pauric, Declan and Alan and anyone else who can make it to meet from ** 1pm** to **2pm** on Friday* *Training day:* - sponsorship training happening this Tuesday from 5pm to 6pm - one committee member needs to attend - Fiona is in lectures until six and the rest of the committee are going to be involved with Stars *- Pauric to email Lisa and explain that Drama won't be able to make it because it's a really busy evening for us, Stars is our second biggest event of the semester* *Clubs and Socs pictures for Lisa Muldowney:* - Lisa is looking for society pictures for some literature she's drawing up *- Pauric to gather some pictures together and send them on to Lisa* *AOB:* - So You Think You Can Dance? is not going ahead, Dance Soc cancelled it - Style Soc calendar - Sarah Cramer is going to come in and take the photos - we want to do a Fame dance-themed photo: action shot, leaping in the air - Megan, Yvonne and Alan are definitely going to do it - need up to ten people *- Pauric to include it in the announce drama* - charity sleepover *- Pauric to hold some drama games between **12am** and **1am** on Wednesday night* - Christmas party *- Fiona and Declan to contact Kat* - Campus blurb: just panto and Christmas party *Next meeting: **7pm**, **Monday, December 3rd, 2007***
