[Drama-Committee] Theatre Trip Oct 11th???
Hey, I talked to some of you about a theatre trip in Oct to see Wicked in the West End. Anyway- if we use the date 11th Oct (We don't have too- I just picked it) £35 - Wicked Ticket (€52 approx) £6.30 - Train ticket (€10 approx) €61 - Flight to Heathrow Aer Lingus (Ryanair don't fly to Heathrow and heathrow is the only one that connects to the underground. Total €123 IF SPC fund us 60% on tickets (€31.20) 50% on train (€5) Then the trip is €86.80 per person. We charge €90 per person. Flight at around 8:50 arrive in Heathrow at 10:15 Get the home flight at 20:10 arrive in Dublin for 21:25 If a matinee is at about 2/3 that gives us 3 hours either side of the show to shop/find the place/ etc... What do people think? (Not if we have 30 people we make €96... better than a kick in the crotch...) It would be pretty sweet and we WOULDN'T have to pay accomidation cus its a day trip! We don't have to use that date but I think in general its a good idea. Any queries??? -- Stephen Grimes Applied Physics DCU Drama Chair 085 7079768 55456550
I'm in favour of it. A good bit cheaper than I expected actually, even without the SPC funding.

Hmm... Now that I think about it will the SPC give grants for 2 trips in one year? If not, then I think Broadway should be the priority.

completely agree with conor . and i think the spc constitutuion budgets for one foreign trip every two years. snowboarding are a club so they dont really have to deal with it. but now that there becoming a society . the spc will probably have to amend to allow 1 foreign trip a year. so we might push our look asking for two? I wasn't aware of the SPC policy on foreign trips. Is that definitely true? If so, then theoretically, Broadway will be rejected this year... I like this plan. The only flaw I can see is that we won't know how much SPC funding has been approved until the beginning of October. Emergency funding for little events is provided in the first few weeks but they're unlikely to even consider foreign trips like this until after the grant application deadline. By that time, Wicked could be sold out, flights will undoubtedly be more expensive and we'd be under huge pressure to organise everything. I also think we're going to have major problems booking things, not least because all the cash we currently have in our account is owed to the SPC, the new committee still don't have authority on the account and we don't have access to the SPC credit card (or any other credit card for that matter) at the moment. For these reasons, I'd propose setting a provisional date for the trip as November/December. We can apply for it in the Grant Ap and just see how it goes and, if needs be, look into funding it independently of the SPC. Personally, I think we could charge people €130 as I can't imagine people would have a problem with paying that much. Saying this, Just my two cents. One final reservation I'd have about the idea of applying for funding for this trip is that the SPC might see it as an opportunity to reject the Broadway grant ap and fund this West End trip *in lieu *of Broadway. Perhaps I'm being overly-cynical? Anyhoo, that's my two cents. On 8/28/06, john cannon <dcujohn@gmail.com> wrote:
