[Drama-Committee] Fwd: The Exonerated
What do you guys think?! ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: DCU Amnesty <dcuamnesty@gmail.com> Date: Dec 4, 2006 11:26 AM Subject: The Exonerated To: stephent.grimes5@gmail.com Cc: stephen.grimes5@mail.dcu.ie Hi Stephen, I was checking out about the Exonerated, It's $60 per performance so we are going to the SPC to apply for additional funds for it this week, maybe we could apply jointly if your soc is still interested in doing the play.. We were thinking 4 performances, Tues - Fri in a week, what do you think, is that usual? Let us know what the soc thinks anyway, the cast was about 10 actors when it played at the fringe festival in october and it sold out for the 3 weeks it ran for every night (well it had aidan quinn, david soul and neve campbell in it). The actors sat on stools for the whole performance and had their lines in front of them, so there was hardly any props, some light work with spot lights and a few sound effects i think. Another alternative could be Brendan Behan's 'The Quare Fellow', which is set in Ireland in 1954 and is about an irish man being put to death. This play helped change peoples attitudes in Ireland about the death penalty and is also inspired in 1953/4 by what was to be Ireland's last ever execution. Although we would really like to go with The Exonerated, this year anyway. We were also looking into approaching Martin Sheen to do a guest night maybe on the final night. He's studying over in Galway at the moment and he's a big human rights supporter and is vocally opposed to the death penalty, he's been arrested something like 60 times for his activism. Worth a shot anyway. Dramatists Play Service, Inc. own the production rights. ( http://www.dramatists.com ) We were thinking of splitting any profits, a third for the survivors (there's an offical fund), a third amnesty international's work on the death penalty, a third to drama soc. Or what do ye think? And have it run in week 10-11? Arran, chair Amnesty International Soc -- Stephen Grimes AP2 Rep DCU Drama Chair 085 7079768 55456550
