heya, i'm really sorry i aint been around much. i've been very busy lately. come see my show in the mill, dundrum on sunday!! i also apologise for the shameless plug. i will get onto that flier for the fresher's pack but consider this . . .a physical calendar with everything drama is doing throughout the year printed on it. easy to read, freshers keep it all year and know what is coming up. we could have funny drama photo's for every month. i found it hard to keep up with everything drama was doing last year. having it all down on paper would make it so much easier. whadya think? i am IN FAVOUR of doing the musical SPECIFICALLY for charity. we have never made a profit on the musical. that doesn't mean it can't be or isn't ever done.guys and dolls is just a horrible financial memory that left a bitter sting in our mouths( in the form of bagpacking). take, for example, the 'debbie allen school of dance'; they put on a dance show over six nights, two shows a day, in the civic. they sell out, cover their costs and give the money to st. michael's house. easier said than done you say, but it can be done. SELFISH RESONS: this year's musical is a completely new venture, incomparable to previous shows we've done because we are largely selling it to people who have no connection to us whatsoever; so, we do not rely on word of mouth or family connections to sell tickets. just from a PRO . . .or "beeeyach"(thanks steve) point of view; free advertising on tv and radio is achivable, by free i mean interviews, plugs etc. however there are conditions, being we either have a child in our cast/ are giving the proceeds to charity etc. this also means presenters can give tickets awaay in the form of a competition= more publicity. also, rather than buying advertising in national papers, we can send in our own photo and blurb, followed by "all proceeds go to ****" . furthermore, services and things like props etc. can be borrowed with much greater ease if it is for a charitable cause. eg; we need twelve metal buckets and brushes for our show "annie" in the helix. may we borrow them from your store as this is a nonprofit event and we need all our proceeds to go to charity. further hype can be rallied by the charity themselves "please go see this show, we need the money". this can not happen if we do not do it for charity. LESS-SELFISH REASONS: we are not a charity. we are a non-profit drama society who help ourselves and not others. sure, we entertain others. we are all university students free from life threatening illnesses(apart from john's chlamydia) and are above the poverty line. this will be our first time competing with other societies around dublin on such a level, but because this is our first venture of such magnitude, we need an edge. i have learned that college drama societies are viewed as smarmy and insular. this is not true. the irish times used to review trinity players and ucd drama soc on a weekly basis, back in the eighties. it stopped because the standard dropped, the best thing we can give next years committee is a place on the map and a recognisable name. lets put the past behind us and reach for the stars climb every mountain top and reach for the stars and when that rainbow's shinin' over you that's when all your dreams will all come true. i wrote that myself!!!!!!! kiss kiss mwah mwah -- spread the flange. new world order.
