[Drama-Committee] Stuff what needs to be done an' that.
Ahoy gang, I realise that 80% of us are excited as hell about our trip next week (while the remaining 20% may be a tad jealous...) BUT There remains a hell of a lot of work to be done in the absence of that 80%. Yuck. MOVING THE BLOODY SET: Shea McNelis is being a royal pain in my ass about getting the set out of the Venue. It does need to be moved though, as it's going to get destroyed if we leave it in there. Shea wants it moved this weekend. Aaargh. The catch: we have nowhere on campus to put it. There's no point in taking it off campus, as we'll need it for "All My Sons" in week 1 (Tues, Wed, Thurs). I spoke to Buildings today, and they won't let us use the room under the library, even temporarily, as it can't be locked and is already full (so they say). I also went over to Albert College to find out what the story was with that room we have been promised, to find that neither Martin Conry nor Gay Crowley were there and nobody else had a clue of what I was talking about. Brilliant. So we still need to move the set, possibly Sunday. Any suggestions as to where to put it will be welcome. First person to suggest "up Shea's arse" wins a teddy bear. ALL MY SONS: Rehearsals are going increasingly well, and we're feeling that the show is really starting to gel, which is great. I even know some of my lines. Shane is the producer (and is also going to Broadway) so there remains a lot of work to do for Charlie, Eoghan and any random DramaHeads they can dig up. I would suggest Alan Keegan, Ashley Dooley Martyn, Kat Farrell, Jenni Tweed, Conor Lynch, Jay Fallon, Lennox, Gary Furlong, Dallan McCormick and Susan Doyle to get on this. I understand that Shane has already spoken to Eoghan re: tech - sound and lighting. We are hoping to have a dress and tech rehearsal on Monday 6th. Alan O Connor is to build the set, but seeing as he is away with the snowboarders all next week, if we can persuade the list of names above to get started on it, that would rock. Jenni did a fantastic job on the Panto set, and is signed up to be set designer for the Musical - so the practice here will be most helpful... We need to promote the hell out of this show too, in order to break even. We need to get Gary Boylan (gary.boylan2@mail.dcu.ie, 086 307 0650) to send the poster to campus.print@dcu.ie and get stacks of them printed up. We're in good standing with Campus Print (about 60 euro in our account) so there's no worry there. Get the large cardboard sheets out of the equipment room, plaster them with posters and get them up all over the college. That needs to be done during the week off, as the show starts Tuesday of week 1. I'm thinking 5 euro, and 4 for members, as for showtimes - contact Shane or Fiona. Gary might need to speak to them too as he'll have to put the showtimes on the posters. We can put up some posters for Merchant of Venice while we're at it. Mikey Robinson (michael.robinson2@mail.dcu.ie, 086 408 7061) has the poster, and Eoin has the details. We can discuss this on Sunday, assuming some of you can help out moving the set. We need to sort out people (probably from the group mentioned above, plus others) to man a ticket desk in the HUB for all of weeks 1, 2 and 3 - to promote and sell tickets for All My Sons and Merchant Of Venice (week 3, the Space). I'll be sending out a mail to announce-drama with all of this information, but it's up to us to see that it gets done. Most of the cast of All My Sons are going to New York, so we'll be learning our lines while we're there. Yay! I'll be in touch regularly while we're away (I'm bringing at least ONE computer with me...) HOODIES: The fabled hoodies arrived at six pm Thursday night, and of the 50 we received, we have sold/allocated more than 30 in the last 24 hours. We may need to order more, but we'll jump that bridge when we get to it. I'm happy enough with the design - they're haven't got the "Exit Stage Left" logo, cos it was too much hassle to get a template, but no matter. They're high-quality (not bloody printed - have you seen the snowboarding hoodies after a few washes?) and have our logo, motto and URL on them. That's good enough for me. Oh yeah, and everybody who has seen them wants one. Yay! Given that the cost price was around the 27 euro mark, I think that 30 euro is a fair price to ask for them. Although, I would offer them at 35 to non-members. I have heard rumblings that we have to give a certain amount of money to the SPC for every hoodie that we sell, as it is a form of advertising or something. This is the first I've heard of it, and I think it's a complete crock of shit. Our members want hoodies, we get them hoodies. End of story. Of course this could be a fairy tale, I don't know all the details. I have included an excel worksheet thingy detailing where the hoodies have gone so far, what sizes have been given out, who's collected theirs and who's paid for them. I don't know if people not on this list have contacted Eoghan seperately to get a hoodie, if they have then obviously they're not on the list. The last grouping (from Jennifer Lavin to Nicole Dubefuller) are all going to NY and I've offered to bring their hoodies to the airport on Monday for them. Some have offered to pay on Monday, others we shall catch up with upon our return. Depending on how many others contact me over the weekend, more names could be added to that list - I'll need to meet Eoghan on Sunday to get hoodies out of the equipment room... I'm gonna pass the excel sheet over to Eoghan (who has the key to the hoodies) and Shane (who should be collecting the money) - so it's up to you guys to keep it up to date. I'll bring a copy of it on my powerbook to the US to update anyone who pays us while we are there. OTHER RANDOM STUFF: ISDA is coming, and we need to sort out which show we are going to put in for it. Deirdre Moran has asked if Drama can take part in a fake wedding on the Monday of week 1, for Shag Week. I'm including that in the announce-drama email, looking for volunteers. The School of Nursing are looking for Drama to supply actors for nursing training, and possibly to give bedside manner lessons, which will be included in the curriculum for the Nursing degree. To have DCU Drama actively involved in something that has academic merit is serious shit. Bring it on! Diarmaid (ex-DCU Drama) is now with the Gaiety School of acting, and is mad to get into bed with us. I met him for a pint last night and we had a very interesting chat. As part of their course, they have to go and see something every week. He has assured me that about 20 of them will be looking for tickets to All My Sons and Merchant, and will be up for the musical too. They are eager to establish ties with DCU Drama - Diarmaid was a member the years that Drama won the BICS, and couldn't believe that we have so much planned this year! We also spoke about possible workshops - I mentioned that while we have talented actors, their vocal projection and diction could do with work. They have offered to give us workshops in these areas in return for a few pints. Everybody wins! Rag Week: The SU are running "Mini Brother" - in which 4 students are locked into a mini for 23 hours a day. Auditions are week 1, and Sarah Farrell asked me to go for it. I'm undecided at the moment, as Merchant is week 3, and I'd like to get some rehearsal time in. But I'll be including that in the announce-drama email too.
