Re: [Drama-Committee] [Drama] Actors Wanted, Drown Drama and Society Swap Reminder.
Hiya Sinead, I'm interested in auditioning for the video thesis, do you have a contact email for Paddy Thunder? Thanks, Andrea Byrne On 22 February 2010 16:24, DCU Drama <dcudrama@gmail.com> wrote:
Hey Guys,
Just a few more things that needed to be addressed.
Drown Drama is on in the Nu Bar at TEN tonight, not 8 as the posters say.
Clubs and Society Swap: We need to gather a team together of guys and girls (about ten all together!) who will play tag rugby and also perform songs from Glee with 10 people from rugby in week 6. It's all in aid of RAG week charities and sure, it's a bit of fun isn't it? Can people (men please!) email me sec.sinead@gmail.com. I have a few girls already but we really need guys to play the match!
Below is an email sent to me by Paddy Thunder, a third year CS student who is putting together a video thesis. This is a great opportunity for those interested in screen acting and would look fabulous on a show reel or live CV. Read below for more info.
Hi Everyone,
Myself, Nicola Leddy and Lorcan Smith (all final year communications students) are about to embark on a particularly ambitious video project as part of our final year thesis. Between us, we've been involved in various professional television productions and some award winning student projects.
Essentially, we are putting together a 25 minute pilot episode for a new comedy series which, on completion, will be pitched to various television channels and production companies around the country. While we are only putting together a pilot episode, the general premise of the series as a whole would be for each episode to examine one working week (Monday - Friday) in the lives of three unemployed friends who, through the wonders of social welfare and rent allowance, live together in a ramshackle three bedroom house.
To get to the point of this email, we are looking to put together a group of talented people to get involved in the project. We need:
1) Actors: We will be holding a preliminary casting day on Wednesday 3rd of March. This will be to cast the three lead roles. You will find a brief description of these roles at the end of the email in order to get a better idea of which might suit you best. If you intend to audition it is important that you contact us with your name, age, phone number, and the role(s) you wish to audition for by the end of this week. This will give us time to send you a section of the script to learn before the auditions. If offered a part, you will, of course, get to read the whole script before accepting. It is important to note that there are many other roles to be filled aside from the main three, and if you would prefer a smaller part, we can discuss this at the casting.
2) Writers: Although we are a long way through the writing process and already have a detailed outline of each scene written, we are still looking for talented co-writers to join the team and have a go at writing out some dialogue. If you have an interest in script writing for comedy, drop us an email by the end of the week and we will send you a more detailed synopsis of the episode, charecter bios and a scene or two for you to have a bash at. For potential writers, we will need a response to this email by Thursday 25th February and all writing attempts back to us by Monday 1st March.
As this is a student project, work will be unpaid. Having said that, for those interested in a career in film or television, the experienced gained acting / writing for camera will be invaluable and the completed project will be a perfect way to showcase your talent, along with making a significant addition to any portfolio / showreel. Not to mention the chances of it being taken up by a production company or winning a few awards!
Anyway, that's about all the info I need to pass on for the moment. Thanks for your time, and sorry about the long-winded email!
Regards,
Paddy Thunder.
* * *Brief Character Biographies: * * * * * *
Steven
Extremely eccentric. Very fond of alcohol/drugs and does bizarre + unexplainable things when under the influence of them. Has no aspirations in life and is completely content in wasting his life away. Has the ability to be completely blassé in the most intense situations but can get extremely worked up about insignificant things. Often gets silly ideas into his head that he won't let go of. Has a child-like innocence about him, but is very willing to partake in morally objectionable activities.
Damien
Somewhat of a father figure to Steven. Damien is a slightly more motivated person and likes to think he is far smarter than Steven but this is not necessarily the case. He sometimes attempts to be proactive in life, but is always dragged down by Steven in the end. Having said that, Damien is still known to have a 'get things done' attitude. He sometimes goes through phases of seeking employment but is never successful. Has a bit of an inner city Dublin accent.
Klaudia
Just arrived from Poland. Is a really hard worker and has a great work ethic, but can't get employed because of her poor English. Has a very good heart and volunteers at a local youth centre. Her lack of English / knowledge of Irish culture is the reason behind her tolerance of Damien and Steven. She presumes that their lifestyle is the norm and all Irish people are just a bit odd. Her naivety and lack of English are often exploited by the two guys. Note: We understand Klaudia may be challenging for an Irish person to play but would love to see as many attempts as possible!
All characters are in their twenties (could be anywhere from early - late). *
Cheers Guys and apologies for the second email today.
Sinead.
