[Drama-Committee] Meeting Monday
Hey Folks! Meeting this Monday, 5pm to discuss musical related stuff. There will be a presentation too, and we'll go over designs for our fresher flyers! It was also come to my attention that the Fresher Karoke will have to be cancelled as the SU have booked out the Bars solid for the first two weeks and will fill them with events, so we're kinda screwed on that front. All to be discussed Monday, Clubs and Socs, with a bonus presentation from the erstwhile Conor Farrell and Laura Aspil! See you there, Dave ~Non Curo Hombre.. Si Mentrum non habet, non est Poema!~
Hey all - in the spirit of meetings, here's the minutes of the last meeting and schedule for orientation week - enjoy!! :) P.S. - anyone with old drama posters (or any old drama propaganda :) ) bring them in for to decorate our stand area with!! :) On 9/8/05, David Grimes <david.grimes2@mail.dcu.ie> wrote:

Hello???? Im sorry but did we not already talk about the musical not taking up the whole of the committees time?! Its essential that it begins to work as a separate committee that reports to the drama committee. I am very worried about the way things are being done so far. I notice the the musical is the reason this meeting is being called and not orientation week. If its to do with the musical I think that there should be past producers there from Kevin Delaney, Riona, Clarie and myself and most importantly Bob, Dave and Shane. Otherwise I think its going to be a waste of time. If none of what was decided before is going to hold then whats the point in deciding things at all. As for the SU booking out BOTH bars for the first two weeks Id be putting in a formal complaint about that, societies have a right to use those facilities and I already discussed with the bar what we wanted to do. Complain to Sara (who;s being very odd these days, I think the SU have brain washed her already) and if you get no joy there make the complaint to the SPC. I think its time you took me off this mailing list. I will be more than happy to give my opinion on anything you want it on and if you want my input on anything just cc me as well as the committee but seeing as its all entirely in your hands now I am going to take a back seat and enjoy the show for a change. I know you are all going to do a fantastic job with everything you take on this year. The society is in your hands, MAKE A SCENE!!! * SNIFF SNIFF * Buh bye Elaine the

This is prep work and is in accordance with what we detailed last year before closing. Don't worry, the musical is a mere blip on the drama radar at the moment. But a little prep work wouldn't kill us, following Alan's advice. the

Firstly, We have dealt with Orientation week and that is the main point of the meeting, and indeed last weeks meeting. We ran through our plans for the first 3 weeks, and also booked Martin French, and made the time tables for Orientation week. I have also e-mailed Lisa Muldowny to confirm Drama's presence. Secondly, we never picked a musical production committee, we merely discussed the idea. We approached prospective producers for this (And indeed, for other events, most notably Fiona for Arthur Miller) and that was it. This year we want drama to be a club catering to it's members and giving everyone a chance. I don't want to see it having a definate major input from Ex students of the college because that plain isn't fair. While their input of ex producers is appreicated, their will be new students with theatre experience, great ideas and astounding drive. Let's not rush into committee's just yet. In any case, a production committee is there help Drama, not actually choose the show any more than a contract painter chooses which house he wishes to paint. This year, Laura and Conor have already come up with results and we merely wish to discuss ideas with them. I for one think this level of dedication and enthuaism should be encouraged, not killed by committee. While your concern is appriecated and your experience coveted, Drama is no longer under your chairship. This is not an insult, and please don't take it as such. I'm merely suggesting that it's a new style of running it, and many members are not yet in the country so it's unfair to critise just yet. Give us time to fuck it up God damn it! I can personaly vouch the musical will not be as big a timewaster as previous. Hell, I made the most noise about that and I haven't forgotten ;)

I will talk to the bar on Monday if I can, but I have a nasty feeling we can't do much to change it, as they've booked bands solid for the 1st two weeks. *Sighs*
