[Drama-committee] what do you all think of this reply
if my tone is too impatient or im looking too unoptimistic about the whole thing then by all means but i though you should have a look at it before its sent to him. I think he's being very unrealistic about the whole thing but if he feels that he can put 100% into it I would encourage it only on the provision that he gets a production team togeather during the first semester.
I I really don't think you should send it because ,despite his naivity in certain areas, he is, like anyone in his position would be, just trying to find out how he can best put a show on. He's obviously very passionate about it and has clearly put a huge amount of effort into his proposal. To respond to this effort with an email which is both condescending and in parts unfair would not really be in keeping with the "we?re so approachable and willing to help you out" spiel. Obviously I don?t think this was your intention but it does come across that way. I know we?ve given the guy a chance but still I do think we?re being a bit harsh on him, and to me it looks like it?s more of an effort to dissuade him completely than anything else. For example: your response to the steps he requires at the front of the stage are hardly reasonable, steps can consist of a few painted bricks if needs be, he?s not looking for a staircase, never mind one worth 1,500 euro as quoted. If he?s not prepared to accept that the "venue" is the only stage available to him ,well fine, he can go elsewhere but apart from that I don?t think we should be so incredibly restrictive - sets are very important and if he wants to construct a good one at a reasonable cost then why not. In any case, the set he?s suggesting is pretty basic, this is a society whose basis is supposedly dramatics and if we aren?t willing to fund the construction of something that looks impressive for the play he?s trying to put on then what?s the point. I mean, and this is not a dig, you are spending 1000 on the rental of a screen which is fine and dandy, but what kind of a message does it give out to an enthusiastic member when we?re willing to fork out a grand for that while at the same time quibbling over the price of some steps. Hopefully this won?t turn into a petty and overheated war over nothing, because in the past when this has happened, sponsorship officers have been known to disappear?. and the poor girl she?s only new to the college, never mind the committee: do we really want her to suffer the same fate as Martin. There it is, I?ve said more than anyone ever thought I would. I can only hope that Mr. Considine is aware of what he?s started.

Ok people, Time to calm down and remember that we're all here to have a bit of fun :) Re: Ger, I think he is very enthusiastic and as long as we bring down his budget a bit in some areas, and *really* stress that DCU Drama are not going to be taking responsibility for this (but will support him as much as we can) it could work very well. Elaine I understand you've had to deal with Ger an awful lot in the last five months, and he's difficult enough to deal with. However, this is a drama society. And here is a real drama production that someone wants to invest time and energy in. He's happy enough to do the promotion and a lot of the work so really he's just looking for financial advice and a producer. Also, I have something to say about the money that Drama control. I don't think e-mail is the best way to do it so I'll be bringing it up at the meeting on Monday, but I've had a lot of advice on this and it's relevant to teh current discussion. In conclusion: we all love each other, it going to be ok. *group hug* :) Riona ________________________________________________________ "Everyone knows that art is not truth. hi guys, lots of opinions flying around there. ger has sent us a very in depth proposal, possibly the most in depth one we'll see this year. its very black and white so if people have opinions, i suggest you print out the proposal and make notes to be brought up at the meeting. dont worry daniel there'll be no storming out this time, unless of course you have something random planned. elaine can you hold off sending that email on behalf of the drama committee until all our thoughts are taken into consideration. thanks for the effort though!! riona, talk to you about dreaded money on monday! and save the group hug for your therapy, right? this isnt a disney movie. we're seriously angry individuals. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! PAT FUCKIN RAFTER! ps: more pressing issue?---> *NO TREASURER!!!!* #########################################################

Hi y'all Your friendly PRO Officer here. I'm putting together this weeks submission for Drama and its going to be a big one, so I want to send it in asap to make sure it gets a good spot. If anyone has any announcements they'd like to make, send me them as fast as is humanly possible. Thanks! Riona ________________________________________________________ "Everyone knows that art is not truth. Art is a lie which makes us realise truth."
Hi all Just in case I didn't say it enough, Stars in Their Eyes was flippin amazing! Lorraine, Mags and Martin, you really pulled it off, well done. Everyone was on their feet dancing and clapping at the end, great buzz altogether. Overall, Arts Week was pretty damn good. There were some mistakes and room for improvement, but I think everyone involved, and especially us drama people, did themselves proud. This week the only thing we have on is on Wednesday - we're having a kind of get together session for everyone in Drama to meet the committee and each other over a few drinks and to get some first years involved. Paul suggested it a few weeks back, so Elaine has arranged for us to take upstairs in the Slipper. What I was thinking is that maybe we could invite all the arts week folk too. Not sure if its the best idea, but we do need a kind of debriefing session for everyone to give their thoughts on what happened and how to do it better. What do ye all think? Hope the One-Act festival went well! If there's anything to go in the weekly bulletin/ An Tarbh, send it on to me. Riona. ________________________________________________________ "Everyone knows that art is not truth. Art is a lie which makes us realise truth."
yeah, i second all that riona was saying, well done everyone. this weeks meeting is very important. we're now in week 9 and what id like is for us to do is to reflect on everything so far. see what was good and what was bad. id like to hear everyones opinions on where theyd like to see dcu drama going next semester. theres been trojan work by people done all in different ways. Elaine, lisa and riona have done a huge amount for admin and general organisation, daniel, chris and lisa have done lots for our first intervarsity show!! mags and lorraine did a great job with stars in their eyes, we've a great website which is constantly updated thanks to paul and judging by the last rehearsal that i saw, the play in the space should be a great success thanks to daniel. there are a couple of areas that we really need to improve on, and next semester, we should try to be a bit more organised! i know your all keen to see our society be the best it can be so, if we put our heads together im sure we can all have our own views expressed and thus, implemented, if that makes sense. id like everyone to prepare 2 points on good aspects of this years drama and 2 bad points and we can then see how we can improve. oh and there is the pressing issue of the musical!! anyway, see yis then medb.
