Hey guys, said I'd forward this on for Joseph Murray! Looks good, check it out!!! ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Joseph Murray < joseph.murray6@mail.dcu.ie> Date: Sep 4, 2006 10:52 AM Subject: The Good. The Bad. And... The Green. To: "Steve (drama)" <stephen.grimes5@mail.dcu.ie > Cc: joseph.murray6@gmail.com Finally, the Truth about The Land of Oz is coming to Ireland care of the Dublin Magnet Fringe Festival 2006!! Was Dorothy Gale all she seemed – just an innocent corn-fed hick who through no fault of her own was manipulated into committing that most heinous of crimes – murder? Just who was the Wizard? Magician, politician, humbug, spin doctor… showman? Were all those innuendos about the Scarecrow, the TinMan and the Lion really just the product of your dirty little imagination? Perhaps, perhaps not… Oz: a Fairytale Plot lets you turn it all on its head and still come away with a warm fuzzy feeling inside. The show runs from September 12th to the 17th and what's more, DCU students can avail of the discounted ticket price of just €14 (€12 on Tuesday). Adaptable, fun and dynamic DoppleGäng are a motley crew of eight original artists from diverse backgrounds including drag, burlesque, performance art, acting, dance, make up artistry, film making, video/sound editing, graphic design, costume design, interior design and fine art. Since their Valentine's Night debut at popular late night club Glitz DoppleGäng have romped home with the much coveted Alternative Miss Ireland title for 2006 (fronted by troupe member and drag king Funtime Gustavo), appeared twice on the cover of Scene City Magazine and been the subjects of an exhibition of original paintings entitled In Bed With DoppleGäng by up-and-coming art world luminary Emma J. Pearson. *Something Wonderful This Way Comes…* Not content with these considerable successes DoppleGäng raised the bar for themselves once again and secured a place in Dublin Fringe Festival '06 to present their original show Oz: A Fairytale Plot. The brainchild of troupe members Emma Weafer (Producer) and Garvan Murphy (Writer / Director) Oz: a Fairytale Plot is a homage to the many and varied musicals, books and parodies of all things Oz that have been conjured into being since L. Frank Baum first picked up his pen and created the quintessential American fairytale. Oz: A Fairytale Plot borrows elements from many of these sources but remains faithful to none. DoppleGäng have taken the Technicolor camp of MGM's 1939 masterpiece, The Wizard of Oz, the clever subversiveness of 1970s re-make The Wiz and the quiet pathos that underscores the storyline of Wicked (the latest Broadway smash from Stephen Schwartz) which is based on the unashamedly dark Wicked: The Life And times Of The Wicked Witch Of The West by Gregory Maguire. With a pick 'n mix style multi-gendered cast featuring all eight original members of DoppleGäng, who will be joined on stage by twelve professional dancers, a sparkling original script by Garvan Murphy and the distinctive choreographic stylings of Donncha O'Dea Oz: A Fairytale Plot promises to be one of the entertainment highlights of the year. *The Good. The Bad. And… The Green. * Working on the Maguire principle, Oz: A Fairytale Plot seeks to re-examine what we think we all know about the iconic characters of Dorothy, Glinda The Good and The Wicked Witches of The West and East. Were the various Witches' monikers really so apt as all that? Was Dorothy Gale all she seemed – just an innocent corn-fed hick who through no fault of her own was manipulated into committing that most heinous of crimes – murder? Just who was the Wizard? Magician, politician, humbug, spin doctor… showman? Were all those innuendos about the Scarecrow, the TinMan and the Lion really just the product of your dirty little imagination? Perhaps, perhaps not… Oz: a Fairytale Plot lets you turn it all on its head and still come away with a warm fuzzy feeling inside. *An Oz-tastic Experience! * Not only should you expect sumptuous costumes, surreal sets, Broadway calibre production numbers and inventive acting; you can also anticipate being treated to a proper evening at the theatre… DoppleGäng style! A gold carpet, a wonderland venue and Oz-themed cocktails and music will all serve to get you in the mood. All together now… Weeeeeee're off to see The Wizard… *Oz: A Fairytale Plot runs at Liberty Hall Theatre as part of the Dublin Fringe Festival '06 from September 12th to 17th. * Tickets are priced €17/14 and are available through the Fringe Box Office, 12 East Essex Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 2.
