Hey all. Tomorrow at 12 there is a meeting on clubs and soc day, it were we'll getting our table. I'm going, anyone else is welcome to come. Hey Guys, I'm really sorry but I have to work tommorrow :( I had tonsillitis over the weekend so had to call in sick on Saturday, and because of that I couldn't get Tuesday off. Hey All, If you could all read though the attached document it would be greatly appreciated. If you have any advice or don't think you like something don't moan come up with an alternative idea and change the document (highlighting the bits changed) and send it back to all of use) i am giving this as a time limit of this weekend and all changes to be made are to be done by Tuesday morning. I have also got wind that Conor (maths lecturer) is an avid fan of wanting something like this to happen so i wish to send the document on to him for his imput but after we work out all the kinks we can find (by Tuesday morning of course). Hey everyone, Hope you are all enjoying the last of your holidays! As you all know I was fairly withdrawn from the society at the end of the last semester with my absence from college and personal things etc. This year, however, I want to completely fulfill my role and bring us a whoptastic line of events to entice new members and keep both new and established members happy! Firstly I have some questions: to those of you who know the societal ropes a bit better (i.e Kav, Laura and Eoin), would it be possible to alter our values/rules/codes of conduct thing so that it includes some social aspects? And if so, would everyone be okay with that? The reason I ask is because at our last meeting with the clubs & soc officer they said they would not be happy with us if we kept holding events that were nothing to do with our values, yet I would still like for us to hold more social events like the beerpong event as it would be a fantastic way for our new engineers to get to know each other and also the other students on campus. Sometimes that little icebreaker is needed. It would also bring a bit of fun into the society, and not to mention allow a lot of the engineers who are not the snowsports type to experience the wonder of college life that is beerpong - and we would cater for those that don't drink alcohol, an added incentive in comparison to snowsports. What do you guys think of having more social events in general? Aside from this, Killian suggested that we take the first years out to town for a bit of a pub crawl to let them get to know each other, what does everyone think? In an "underground" manner as we can't advertise these events. I agreed with you at the time Killian, as I was running out the door, but having thought about it it may be problematic. Being first years a lot of them may be under age, it could be messy for those that decide to drink and don't know their limits, and if Clubs & Socs find out their may be murder. I still like the essence of the idea, bring the first years to town for some socialising, maybe cinema or for food or bowling? What say ye?? Anyway I would like to plan and execute a robot wars event in first semester, so I would like to have our list of materials prepared in advance to make the request as soon as we're back. Are we going to have a meeting before the scavenger hunt, and if so do you think we should compile this list then or beforehand? Has anyone on the committee ever contacted the health and safety department with regards to an event? We would need advertisement planned and to decide on a date and book a venue, but I guess we could cover these at our first meeting? Apologies for so many questions, but feel free to suggest any other events and please give me feedback. Regards, -- Luke
