Hi all,
I’d like to thank everybody who showed up to the meeting last night and everybody else for informing us they would not be able to attend.
I would like to get a banner for the society. Attached is the funding form which I have filled out for the banner. Currently I can get a 25% discount on the banner on the price quoted on the form.
I have already shown the form to Ronan (Treasurer) and he is happy with it. I would like your thoughts on this and any ideas you have for a design.
As you know last night’s meeting was primarily about the website. I’ll go through what I have written down from the meeting.
1. Subject Notes – Links to Educational Websites on a module by module basis – Contact lecturers for links
2. Software Section – Host software downloads – Links to useful open source/freeware/donationware software – Ask computing for windows 7 – redbrick have software
3. Photo Gallery – PRO brings camera to events, takes pictures, uploads them
4. Forum – Include suggestion area
5. Video Page – Embed YouTube videos
6. Committee Dropbox – Closed section on forum – I have to mention this was Richard’s idea or he’ll kill me
7. Past Committees
8. Constitution
9. Help Page – Recommendations – Section for each year
10. Calendar – Google – Private for Committee
11. RSS Feed incorporation
1. Newline removal in contact form
2. Twitter feed not updating
Ok so that’s everything I have. It was brought to my attention that our website isn’t that good which is fair enough. I am willing time permitting to totally overhaul or start afresh with the website but I don’t want to do so until everything is teased out and I have a full spec agreed on by all so I can determine easily which is the best route to go down for development of the website.
At the moment I think the best way to go about it is to start over with a clear view of where the website should head, how it should be laid out and who it should be aimed at.
I know I haven’t really given much guidance on how to approach this yet I’m still thinking about which would be the easiest way and most efficient way to do this. What I do know is we need to define clear content areas and be definite as to what these pages are to include. If you have your own thoughts please send them on.
For now I will ask you to send on what content/pages/areas you want to see on the website or think would be a good idea. DCU Society Webpages may be a great source to look at for what we should include or think of including on the website.
I’ll leave it at that hopefully before you have fallen asleep.
