Hey Everyone, Hope ye are all looking forward to the competition this Saturday. There will be no training at 11 for beginners or 12 for graded people. Instead there will be a class at 11 for everyone and anyone who wants to stay for the competition is more than welcome to. Below are the details. Start time is 11am sharp. Registration for all your events will be available from 10am. At 11am there will be a one hour class taken by Joe Sweetman, to warm up for the day. Please try and get here as early as ye can so that the day starts on time and will then hopefully finish on time. We have the hall booked until 4pm so it will not be going on any later than that. Payment for the day will be €5 per person. This will cover the hall and a few prizes we intend to give out on the day. Who is actually coming: There are about 15 from DCU, UCC are bringing 15, UCD have promised about 10, UL have said about 15 as well and WIT I think said 15. So all in all we should have quite a good turnout on the day. Kata categories: Beginner (mixed) (white belts) Junior Grade (mixed)(orange-purple belts) Senior Grade (mixed)(brown and black blelts) There will be no separate male and female categories for kata Kumite categories: Junior Grade (male and female) (white-purple belts) we decided that if white belts are going to make an effort to turn up to the competition we may as well make it worth their while. So your white belts can do kumite but it is at their own risk and warn them that it is likely that they may have to fight a purple belt. Senior Grade (male and female) (brown and black belts) The layout of the competition is as follows: start 12.30ish = area 1 junior mixed kata area 2 beginner mixed kata 1.15ish area 1 senior mixed kata 2.00ish area 1 junior male kumite area 2 junior female kumite 3.00ish area 1 senior male and female kumite there will be separate categories but not separate events. In other words every second fight will be female and every first fight will be male. Just to keep it interesting!! 3.45ish Add up score and see which college won. Each fight won and kata won counts as one point. Present prizes. Both the kata and the kumite events will be operate on a round robin system. Basically losers fight losers and winners fight winners, so everyone is guaranteed two fights/katas. Afterwards we head for the Porterhouse for a well deserved drink and food. I am in contact with this pub to try and get us some cheap grub and grog. The pub is easily reached by bus which leaves outside DCU. Me thinks that is about it, if I have left anything out or if ye have any questions, feel free to send me an email. Looking forward to seeing you all this Saturday. Maria
