[Karateclubstudents] for Goda re competition on Saturday
Hi Goda, Thanks for volunteering your services, much appreciated. Bobby has agreed to help out as well with the administration. Below are all the details. Start time is 11am sharp. Registration for events will be available from 10am. At 11am there will be a one hour class taken by Joe Sweetman, to warm up for the day. We have the hall booked until 4pm so it will not be going on any later than that. Who is actually coming: There are about 15 from DCU, UCC are bringing 15, UCD have promised about 10, UL have said about 15 as well and WIT I think said 15. So all in all we should have quite a good turnout on the day. Kata categories: Beginner (mixed) (white belts) Junior Grade (mixed)(orange-purple belts) Senior Grade (mixed)(brown and black blelts) There will be no separate male and female categories for kata Kumite categories: Junior Grade (male and female) (white-purple belts) we decided that if white belts are going to make an effort to turn up to the competition we may as well make it worth their while. So white belts can do kumite but it is at their own risk and they will be warned that it is likely that they may have to fight a purple belt. Senior Grade (male and female) (brown and black belts) The layout of the competition is as follows: start 12.30ish = area 1 junior mixed kata area 2 beginner mixed kata 1.15ish area 1 senior mixed kata 2.00ish area 1 junior male kumite area 2 junior female kumite 3.00ish area 1 senior male and female kumite there will be separate categories but not separate events. In other words every second fight will be female and every first fight will be male. 3.45ish Present prizes. Both the kata and the kumite events will be operate on a round robin system (do not know if that is the right word for it). Basically losers fight losers so everyone is guaranteed two fights/katas. As regards referees, there are four senior judges who are not competing Joe, John, Neville and Bryan Joe is there all day, Bryan can stay til two and I do not know the availability of Nev and John. Junior referees are whatever black belts turn up on the day. Senior events are held separately to junior events so there will always be black belts to help out here. DCU have 2-3 junior black belts. UCC are brining one and I have not heard from the rest. Ideally we should have three refs for the kata events and two refs for the kumite events (with possibly a mediator if there are bodies to go around). This will depend on who turns up on the day. Kata will be flags until final and then we will have score cards. During the competition there will be two areas in operation for most of the day so you will have one area to look after and Bobby the other. Ye can then take it in turns for the senior events or share?? There will be food and drink in the Porterhouse for you afterwards!! Me thinks that is about it, if I have left anything out or if you have any questions, feel free to send me an email. Thanks again, Maria
