THE EGM cannot be held on Wednesday, you need five days to prompt the EGM and posters have to be put on the 9 designated notice boards around the college according to the consitition, otherwise the EGM is unoffical and no action can be take at it, the earlist time you can have EGM is Friday. It was arranged to have the EGM on Wednesday at the emergency committee meeting on Thursday. That's 6 days. I will check this out in the constitution; once I get to read a copy. I have a letter dated from the 1st of December from the SU President making reference to the EGM on the 6th of December. That's 5 days.
It has to be advertised properly, so everyone knows that it's on.
Also my resignation can be accepted until such time as there is an offical EGM. This doesn't make any sense. It implies a change of state of your resignation after the EGM. Please clarify this.
he meant can't I thought so. This isn't mentioned anywhere in the constitution.. I've only got a copy in the last hour, and this is effective as and from 12th of March 1987. It's the same one
The consitition is available in the capitation handbook, please read it first. The first time I even heard we had a constitution was a week ago. Which capitation handbook, Darragh? I can't follow a constitution that I can't access or don't know exists. Siobhan has told me that you have the constition and the capitation handbook yourself; and I'm only finding out now. I was the Secretary and now am the Vice-Chair; both executive committee posts AND I DIDN'T EVEN GET TO SEE IT.
This is a joke, and it most certainly isn't funny. We need to give everyone access to all of our documentation ASAP. Constitution, capitation submission, sponsorship letters (on the minds system itself), etc. We can't run the society like this. You can get a copy of the standard constitution from the clubs and socs office in the su. Ours only has some minor changes to it, and I'm not sure there even exists a copy of the changed version. I'm sure everyone agreed that Arthur Dents house getting knocked down in Hitchikers Guide wasn't fair, even though he could have always gone down to the planning office to check.
The thing is, certain articles in this constitution have never been followed at any general meeting before, or by committee members. I'm pretty sure that the AGM didn't have a quorum of 30% plus 1. If I remember the voting record correctly, 21 people voted for the position of sysadmin. That's 8 short of a quorum of 29 from the membership figures Darragh had of 85 on the capitation submissions. I don't think 8 people abstained. And last years gathering had a turn up of around 15. Societies are run on an adhoc basis anyway. I'll talk to Bart about this. If people decide to get picky about this, there is no mention of any general meeting in the constitution of emergency status. If this does not pass as acceptable, then we can class the EGM as informal; and have a vote subject to further ratification at a true general meeting. If this does not pass, then we're stuck for another week at least. And I don't see why any member would want machine access locked out for any longer than it has to. This is the way I see it, and this is just my opinion on it: Darragh HAD to resign for us to get our machine back Sargon HAD to leave for us to get our machine back We WON'T get machine access back until we have a full committee We WON'T get machine access back until said committee meets with Stephen Brown Now, if we had the constitution on Thursday we would have followed it to the letter and had the official general meeting on Wednesday anyway. Darragh didn't raise any objections to the meeting on Thursday, only doing so on Sunday, which is a bit late. Siobhan has said that Darragh had a copy of the capitation handbook since the Clubs and Socs weekend; and I didn't know about this, Phil didn't know about this, and Siobhan only knew about it as she went on it. I've had no sleep since Thursday night over this, and it doesn't look like I'll be getting any soon now. David Barrett
