[Minds-disaster] Fw: Status of Minds on the University Network
From: "John O'Connell" <John.OConnell@may.ie>
You are aware of the reason for the withdrawal of the minds server last year.
The University would like to see some service in place that would meet your needs. I am aware of the reason for the withdrawal of network access from the Minds server. However, we did not wish to arrange a meeting to discuss the reasoning behind the withdrawal of network access, but rather to clarify
future status of Minds on the University network; and under which conditions we could have such access re-established, if at all.
I am quite glad that the University is interested in supporting the society in some manner, subject to your requirements. We were hoping to discuss both these requirements, and what services we'd be able to offer our members, in the meeting; but I will in future talk to Dr. Keating about this.
Dr. John Keating is developing a possible solution to the problem snd all future enquiries should be referred to him. Shall I take it that the meeting referred to in previous emails is not to take place? I'd just like to clarify this point.
I will work with John and support the establishment of a minds style server when I am convinced that the users of any such system will comply with

University Policy on Responsible Computing, The Code of Conduct for users of University Computing Facilities and the Heanet Acceptable Use Policy. Would you like us to distribute said regulations to new members on Fairs Day? We are currently finalising a "membership pack" for next year, and these could be included in it quite easily, either in physical (printed) form, electronic form (on a CD), or both.
A recurrance of anything like the previous problem would be regarded as a serious matter and treated accordingly. Understood.
If you want to discuss anything else with me, or need any information from Minds, I am happy to so either directly or through Dr. Keating; and hope to help out as best I can.
