60 Greenfield Drive Maynooth County Kildare 1st December 2000 Dear Members and Committee, I have decided to resign from the current committee of MiNDS> as Chairperson. I believe this is for the benefit of the society and the members. I am prepared to accept the fact that I wrote a program could have had damaging consequences to the society, although the program was not written with any intention of being malicious. The program was abused and I have to accept the fact that I left the program available for abuse. I feel though I am not responible for the running of the program but rather I left the program available for people to abuse. I also wish to apoligse for the confusion I have caused over my resignation form the committee. I feel that this may have not help matters but rather have underminded some peoples intent to get the society started again after this terrible disaster. But I did not want to take this decision lightly and I wanted to get third party judgements on my actions before taking up any action. My wishs for the society is that the society for this year have the same goals that I started in that the society be more open to people that are not have a computer background or that may not have any computer experience. To this end I would like to nominate Siobhan McKenna or Fiachra Matthews for the position of Chairperson as I believe these are the best people to follow the path I have laid for the society in this year. I will be available to support and advise the new chairperson on their duties and responiblities. I have also written a wrapper around the mail program that will prevent email bombing on the scale that was initated. This program will be available on Monday with the source code for use to prevent this sort of problem form happening again.
