Re: [Minds-disaster] EGM

Ok everyone, relax a bit.
I'm not sure what it says in the constitution about advertising general meetings, but even if it says nothing, I think it would be worth postponing the EGM for two reasons. The more notice we give people, the more likely they are to come, and since what is being discussed there is so relevent to Darragh, we should hold it some time when he can come. I think what lovelace says here makes sense. There's no point in getting het up over this (well, too much anyhow). I was talking to Brian Gormley, and he said that in these situations, it's better to go by the book. Also, there's not much point in not having Darragh there, as it concerns him the most. When I organised the EGM for this Wednesday, I didn't see a problem with this at all; but I've read over the constitution and after calming down a bit I reckon it's better to stick by the book too.
We will have an informal meeting on Wednesday. No decisions will be made at this meeting that could not be made outside of a committee meeting. A fair amount of the SU officers will be there, Sinead McDonagh, Bart Busschots and Damian Murphy are of particular note (I didn't get a chance to ask/confirm Noel Hogan or anyone else); and I hope to have Stephen Brown there too. This meeting NEEDS to go ahead... I want to inform our members about what happened and to quash any false rumours passed around about Dave Bolger or the Society; because we hardly want anything untrue harming any of our members, or even anything true harming any of our members excessively; even the one who has to leave us. I will NOT keep our members in the dark about all this. This is not a cloak and dagger society. An official general meeting will be held next Wednesday the 13th of December. Posters will be placed by the existing ones drawing attention to this fact by Tuesday night. Hopefully Darragh will be able to attend this one; but what I do not want to do is have an argument in front of everyone about technicalities or the like... I want that sorted by then. I would to have a new constitution drawn up for this meeting, or ammendments to the current one; for this meeting... the current one does not suit an IT society; for example email votes using user accounts, proxy votes, etcetera, are not mentioned. Agenda for next Wednesdays meeting 1) Introduction 2) Darragh will say a few words, if he wishes 3) Necessary Elections 4) Constitution and unofficially, beer. I'd like everyone who can to help Kev out with the posters; he came in sick on Saturday morning to put some up, and there's 65 around the college. David Barrett

Are you talking about Dave Bolger? He hardly has to leave us - disusering him for a month would be quite an adequate punishment, in my opinion. We hardly need to ask him to leave permanently - that is really overly harsh. Additionally, I'd hate to lose him because he is one of the more interested/technically-minded new members. We need members like that, even if they are occasionally over-enthusiastic and screw things up. ;o) Cian -- "there is nothing wrong /* Cian with emulating a man ** I need to sleep. Unfortunately, Noel is barricaded into the Dept. of the Environment offices in the Customs House, as of 2pm today, and he may not be back for a while... ;) Murf... ==================================================== | Damian Murphy, | Webmaster Students' Union, | office: +353 1 708 3669 NUI Maynooth, | fax: +353 1 708 3876 Maynooth, | web: http://www.nuimsu.com Co. Might I suggest thtat all nominations for committee positions be in well in advance of the meeting ? It would serrve to prevent hasty ddecisions on the part of the candidates, and the voters.
