[Minds-disaster] Complete history of Minds-Disaster
Ok heres the first bit of documentation on the Minds disaster. This is what I remember and from my opinion. [First day] Ok so JC pulled the plug. 2 of us noticed as we were online @ the time Me & (I cant remember who else, was it bart?) So me and personX (pX for short), went to find the college sys-admin and ask what was happening & where the MINDS> box was so we could fix it. We were dutifully informed of what happened (CC complaint and unplugging). On hearing this we sent out Scouts for everyone else to meet in the Callan foyer. pX and I went over to see the SU VP Sinead. She was a personal friend & I thought this could be sorted quickly. (Was I above my station or was I VC at the time? can't remember). We were advised by SU VP that Darragh and (1st year)David had to go. We had to be seen to take immediate decicive action. I remember when Margeret (aka Meaigs) was drawing up the 1st constitution, she didn't want to have a ny grounds for dis-membering a member. Unfortunatly Meaigs is one of the nicest people in the world and didn't look at the darker side of humanity. (anyway the whole thing wasn't such a big deal, same e-mail - subject line - from address, it should've been blocked). So Dave Barrett came in about 15mins into the meeting with SU VP. Action had already been decided (I know it was not my place to decide it). We went about implementing the decided action. We met with ALL of the committee in the foyer (except Darragh), we dis-membered 1stYearDave and started impeachment proceedings against Darragh. Darragh got pissed off with us and argued against it. This coused a lot of bad blood. It's a pity really, because Darragh is a nice guy with an impressive knowledge of UNIX. So in the next few days we got the letter from Noel to Darragh, yada yada... can't remember. So anyone want to fill in what happened before and after? Might make a good book :) It's an interesting part of our little Soc's history and it's important to document it --Me http://www.may.ie

So me and personX (pX for short), went to find the college sys-admin and ask what was happening & where the MINDS> box was so we could fix it.

pX and I went over to see the SU VP Sinead. She was a personal friend & I thought this could be sorted quickly. (Was I above my station or was I VC at the time? can't remember). You were no longer Vice Chair, you were non-exec sysadmin.
So Dave Barrett came in about 15mins into the meeting with SU VP. Action had already been decided (I know it was not my place to decide it). What was it exactly?
We went about implementing the decided action. We met with ALL of the committee in the foyer (except Darragh), we dis-membered 1stYearDave and started impeachment proceedings against Darragh. No, we decided to start impeachment proceedings against Darragh, who said he would resign, to show the college that we were taking action on this and we were distancing the Minds society from these events.
Darragh got pissed off with us and argued against it. This coused a lot of bad blood. It's a pity really, because Darragh is a nice guy with an impressive knowledge of UNIX. Actually, Darragh didn't argue with us, at the time, over anything except that he was off to eat and wouldn't stay and talk with us, because "food [was] more important to [him] than some (some term of belittlement here) society".
So in the next few days we got the letter from Noel to Darragh, yada yada... can't remember. Which Darragh tore up. I think I have a copy at home though.

Hey everyone. First of all, as a committe member I would like to appologise for my absence from the discussions. I got back from Cork yesterday. Small family crisis which had to be dealt with. I spent the last hour reading about 80 posts off this mailing list and am quite tired. If you notice the time this was sent i'm sure you'll understand why. Next. I would have no problem attending the gathering in town. It'll be productive, fun and might save me reading another 80 mails. In the upcoming meeting with the CC I think we just have to convince them that we are not a malignancy and play an important role in the fabric of the university. From the concessions that we have gotten so far they seem to have accepted the fact we will get back online in some shape or form but don't like it. They throw up extra problems just to slow the process.
I have since been informed taht my comments are slightly out of date but even thought the CC aren't going to meet with us i think we still have to find ways to convince them we aren't a threat. replys, insults, questioning of parentage to the usual address. seth/fiachra. when the world turns it's back on you Shoot it. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
