[Minds-disaster] The IP of Minds
What IP does Minds think it is on? We're going to need to network Minds and another PC together to get the files off (or rip out the HDD... no way in hell without somesort of water+staticproof box), as according to Darragh the support for MSDOS disks isn't built into our kernel compile. The drivers are there, as far as I can tell, but no kernel support... and I hardly think that it's worth a kernel recompile *just* yet. Darragh also said that support for FreeBSD disks wasn't built into either our Solaris accounts OR into Linux 2.2.14 [the kernel I have]; so the best thing that I can see of doing with the least bother is bringing a PC in there and FTPing the bloody things off. Eek. BTW, what could be wrong with the Minds shell? It seems to be indenting the character writing point, once logged in, to the middle of the screen; and giving about 5 carriage returns each... this is in my own login, I don't think it was doing it in root. Funky screensaver though :) David Barrett

149.157.248.51 I can't remember the netmask. Check the file "/etc/rc.conf", that's where FreeBSD keeps configuration for its bootscripts. There should be a line in there something like ifconfig_xxx="inet 149.157.248.51 netmask yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy" where xxx is the name of the network card (I *think* it's ep0, but that doesn't really matter), and yyy is a number between 0 & 255. The netmask has to match on both machines.

It may be possible to load a kernel module to handle msdos filesystems. Try kldload msdos Assuming that I built the modules last time I installed a kernel there, that should dynamically add msdos filesystem support to the OS.

That's a pretty good way to go about it, yeah. Try the module thing first though.

Just your terminal settings screwing up. Do export TERM=syscons reset and it'll make it look nice again, methinks. Cian -- "there is nothing wrong /* Cian with emulating a man ** I need to sleep. Let me sleep. who has a nice beard" */ while(student);
