[Minds-disaster] Apologies for repeating [extended]
Hey all, I apologise If I repeat anything anyone else says. I havn't had time to read ALL of the posts. I believe the MINDS> executive (not being part of It myself) has preformed well over the past year. Personally being non-executive sysadmin I felt left out of the loop once or twice, but related this to dave & phil who immediatly apologised and put me in the loop. There seems to be a lot of bickering (from all sides) going on on a list that we should be DISCUSSING on. Please stop. Siobhan may feel that she has not been privy to some of the decision making & as VC that's a big disadvantage to US the committee and the users. I believe now is the time to formalise some method of virtual meeting. As the only committee member not in college (work experience) I know that this will benefit you guys next year. Ok back to business, which 3 people (i presume we settled on 3) should go to the CC meeting. I think 1. Dave (he's President) 2. Siobhan (she's Vice Chair) 3. Cian or Phil (Phil is exec-sysadmin and Cian knows loads) 4. Bart as SU rep (in SU capacity) This meeting (I believe) differs from a normal PRO excercise. If it was only a PRO excercise we should only send our PRO (who has a lot more responsibilites than putting up posters IMHO) and our webmaster, who is our main information disseminator. We should be sending our top two elected representitives and a competent systems expert (both Phil and Cian fit the bill). Is there anyone who dosn't want to be sent to the meeting? Lastly, could we please keep bickering and electioneering (from all sides) untill we get back next year. This will give me a quiet summer and allow ALL MINDS> members including new 1st yrs to join in. It will be fun to have a good open election for the executive next year. <IMPLORE>please everyone, keep a level head</IMPLORE> yours etc.. Aidan (balor) http://www.may.ie
1. Dave (he's President) 2. Siobhan (she's Vice Chair) 3. Cian or Phil (Phil is exec-sysadmin and Cian knows loads) 4. Bart as SU rep (in SU capacity) THere's one problem with sending me as SU rep ... tecnically my term ended on the first of jully and Socs offficer is not elected untill the clubs & socs weekend so although I am tecnically out .... the is no one else tecnically in. The constitution is not very clear on weather I serve until a new socs officer is elected or until the old exec leaves!!! If people want me to go I would be glad to .... but it would be as last years socs officer not the current one. One good reason for me to go is that MiNDS> has a bigger impact on the college
Hi Aidan, than just it's own members ... as the ONLY server to provide web hosting and FTP for clubs & socs. the fait of MiNDS> affects ALL clubs and societies in this college ... which is a hell of a lot of people ... as outgoing societies officer my word on this will hold alot more sway than members of minds simply bragging about themselves!!! Siobhan may feel that she has not been privy to some of the decision making & as VC that's a big disadvantage to US the committee and the users. I believe now is the time to formalise some method of virtual meeting. We have the list.
As the only committee member not in college (work experience) I know that this will benefit you guys next year. Can you please explain this? I'm stuck working in town.
Ok back to business, which 3 people (i presume we settled on 3) should
go
to the CC meeting. I think 1. Dave (he's President) 2. Siobhan (she's Vice Chair) 3. Cian or Phil (Phil is exec-sysadmin and Cian knows loads) I'd say Cian.
4. Bart as SU rep (in SU capacity)
I disagree with this entirely. The SU rep has no bearing on the meeting... in fact, I don't think the college really have taken a shine to the SU at all (though Bart has probably been the best behaved ;). I think we'd be better served with someone, from the committee, who can argue well. Cian can, and I think Kevin can argue a point better than Des (but Des would be less likely to annoy them).
This meeting (I believe) differs from a normal PRO excercise. If it
was
only a PRO excercise we should only send our PRO (who has a lot more responsibilites than putting up posters IMHO) and our webmaster, who is our main information disseminator. I disagree with this too. It is a public relations excercise, and thus within the portfolio of the PRO. It comes nowhere near the webmaster's jurisdiction... and he's also not on the Exec.
We should be sending our top two elected representitives and a
competent
systems expert (both Phil and Cian fit the bill). Is there anyone who dosn't want to be sent to the meeting? Considering this is no longer a technical meeting (after what John Keating has done for us) and more of a "We're great" meeting: although someone with technical knowledge would be a good choice, we also need someone who can argue a point effectively. Cian is better at this, I think, than Phil.
Lastly, could we please keep bickering and electioneering (from all sides) untill we get back next year. This will give me a quiet summer and allow ALL MINDS> members including new 1st yrs to join in. Ha! :)
It will be fun to have a good open election for the executive next year. Which is what will happen.

I dissagree with this ... an independednt reference if you will would be a very good thing ... not to mention that our exec was on EXTREMELY good terms with the CC and have had many and constructive meetings with them on various things (non-MiNDS>).
I feel that only the SU can explain MiNDS>'s place imporance to the college on a larger scale. Bart. __________________________ Bart Busschots bart.busschots@physics.org http://www.voyager.8m.net

Dave, I dissagree with this ... an independednt reference if you will would be a very good thing ... not to mention that our exec was on EXTREMELY good terms with the CC and have had many and constructive meetings with them on various things (non-MiNDS>). Ah. I didn't remember you had meetings with the CC... though I thought they were about Minds (in an indirect way, ie about Society Webpages). I was of course referring to the occupations, and Smyth's telephone calls, etc; which you decided not to attend so you could keep a good reputation with the University :)
I feel that only the SU can explain MiNDS>'s place imporance to the
college > on a larger scale. I don't think so. I believe that we can do a very good job of it; and the fact that you are no longer the official SU rep counts against you... ie, it diminishes somewhat the authority you held when you were the SU rep, if you catch my drift. I don't think you will be as effective an addition, considering the objectives of the meeting, as Kevin or Des (and I've explained why I want one of them to come, and I have no knowledge of your ability of argument).
