Personally I can only see inclusion of such a section as a good thing for the society to generate sponsorship, new membership, respect from university authorities, & indeed only strengthens your own CV from having been involved with something that is so positive.
I think the point that's David's making is that RB can't necessarily take credit for its members skills. Many members, myself included, learned and continue to learn lots through my membership of the soc. However, you can't turn round and say "Brickie XYZ is CTO of Sun Ireland, and it's all thanks to Redbrick!" By all means, have a "Where are they now?" section, just don't overtly claim that it's all thanks to Redbrick. Um, unless you're interviewing someone in a dole queue who got sacked for RBing too much.
