[Redbrick-birthday] New Redbrick Evets Officer
From now on, please email me all your ideas and suggestions for this event, I see there is somethings going on and if any support is needed for
Hello all, As you may or may not be aware, last night I unwittenly get myself involved with the committee this year as the new Events Officer. As you can all assume the 10th year birthday is now the most important date in my mind (its sad i know) so the 3rd of March it is. Already I have a meeting with a lovely lady from clontarf castle trying to pitch her hotel to me, i'll see what great deals I can get from her (it'll probably be like gettting blood from a stone but i'll fill you all in on the gorey details later) For those who havent been to Clontarf Castle before or for those who would like a quick reminder what room/place I am talking about here is a few pics http://www.thez0rekorp.com/private/v/clontarf/ these to continue please let me know and i'll see what I can do.. As you all seem to be the more interested people I will try to mail this list at least weekly to keep you all updated with progress Also can anyone with details of who I can get in contact with in regards to sponsership in any companies that you may have these details for? I'd love to hit a few companies for some cash and will be chasing them up as soon as I get this Halloween Event over with, i'll also be after other companies but i'd like to skip the crap of who do i talk to etc from receptionist. :) I want to have this Event planned and done in December so I can concentrate on ticket sales (if there will be a price on them, depends on sponsership etc) so that I can cover costs and reinvest money again into the event. Thanks for reading this long eassy :) again any questions/suggestions/critism please mail me Regards Dara ps. if this appears from disusered@rb its cause chfn is broken

That's the offical date, yeah, but it doesnt really fit in if we want to do it around Tech Week. But it is able to change :)

what's the overall plan for the event? formal? casual? dinner? etc personally i'ld like something along the lines of redbrick's 5th birthday party (or was it sixth?) in the boom boom room (above conways).

People seem to be split on the issue, some love the idea of the big formal shindig and some love the cosier relaxed atmosphere ala the fifth birthday. It's hard to tell which approach will win out at this point. I'm not sure which one I'd like the most to be honest, I don't really care as much about the event but more about seeing the people who'll be there *cue "awwwww"s* :p

Oh my God.... 10 years... I feel so OLD!!! :) I'd prefer a fairly informal gathering - you know, find a nice bar somewhere (Bacchus, anyone? ;-) ), lay on some drink, nibbles and music, everyone gets stuck in and wander around chatting to people & catching up. Hey, why not do both? (it is our 10th birthday, let's make a big deal) :-) If it's feasible anyway - if someone gets costings for a ball style event in Clontarf Castle etc. (to rent the place, food, band - probably around 2-4 grand in total), then if they'd like to share them, I reckon we could attempt squeezing our sponsorship contacts. If we want it to happen then we can possibly make it happen :-) An alternative would be to mix it - book out Clontarf Castle or somewhere (meal etc.), but we'll make it casual, have all "redbrick bands" who are willing come back and play for the night - we could set up a few stands, maybe even a LAN corner or something (!), and just sort of "mix up" the whole formal ball / casual fun night out / nerdy gathering "paradigm". In true redbrick style :-) Kp On Thu, Oct 20, 2005 at 09:18:15AM +0100, Orla Ryan wrote:

Charge the associates 20 a head, that'll go some way towards the cost :o) Clontarf Castle is miles out for those of us who live Southside. Aren't there equally nice venues in the city centre or D4/6 area? what about that place on top of the Guinness place (no idea what it's called) - could we book that out? Well laaah dee dah. Clontarf castle is a 15-minute bus journey from town, and is pretty much on a DART line also. - DoC

Yeah ditto. If the event will actually have stuff like bands or free food or drink then I think it's perfectly reasonable to charge associates (99% of whom can well afford it) around 20 in.

I was thinking more about the logistics of getting home at 2am when the buses and DART aren't running. Could be fairly pricey for a taxi all the way from Clontarf. -- Tum Ganesh nahiin ho! Sheesh, it's a hotel, book a room ;-) Don't put all of that associate super-rich oppulance to waste! It's a big city, anywhere you pick if going to far for someone to get to. DCU is a northside university, so it makes sense to have it northside, which will be easier for the student bums to reach. -- colmmacc@redbrick.dcu.ie PubKey: colmmacc+pgp@redbrick.dcu.ie Web: http://devnull.redbrick.dcu.ie/

The Gravity Bar at the top of the Guinness place is also on the list of ideal (and GORGEOUS) places to try, I loved the pictures of it, so pretty! It is expensive though
