Hey everyone, just a reminder about Mondays training session. This is the first of 8 sessions we have to complete before Christmas and in order to complete your training you need to attend ALL of these sessions. If you miss more than 2 of these sessions you will fall behind and may not complete the training in time so please make that extra bit of an effort and make to the ALL training sessions. [DCU SAC] DCU Pool Access - Thursday Nights

Hello All, The DCU Pool is open to all members for water fitness training tonight and every Thursday night from 8-9pm. You can pick up your blue wristband from the Sports Centre reception desk which will grant you access. This is a great opportunity for new members to practice exercises from Monday's training sessions so do bring along your snorkel equipment. The Active Diver Fitness Test for returning members comprises: 1. Snorkel with fins and mask or swim 200m without stopping 2. Snorkel dive with fins and mask a distance of 25m underwater 3. Tow a snorkel diver 50m Returning members will be expected to attend at least 4 Thursday night pool sessions prior to taking their Active Diver Fitness Test and this will be recorded by myself, John or Siobhan (as official training doesn't start until next week there won't be any record of attendance this evening but feel free to drop down for a swim).. [DCU SAC] Starting Training Monday 1st November

Hey everyone, as you all know at this stage our training will commence next Monday at the pool in Northside shopping centre at 8pm. For those that need lifts we will do our usual pickup outside the NCSR building, at the Collins avenue entrance of DCU with the intention of leaving no later than 7:30 so if you need a lift to the pool please try and be there for 7:20. For those of you that have had your medical done and have had your registration form stamped by your doctor please bring it with you and you can give it to the training officer john Needham on the night. You will all need the basic equipment for training. This consists of (1) Mask (2) Snorkel (3) booties (5mm neoprene boots) and (4) sea fins. When buying your mask please ask the person in the shop to check it fits you correctly. Believe it or not, not all masks fit the same. The best way of testing if it fits is to hold the mask up to your face, without putting the strap around the back of you head, and inhale through your nose. The mask should adhere to your face when you let it go indicating that the seal around the mask on your face is correct. Make sure you buy 5mm boots and sea fins, not pool fins. [DCU SAC] Try-a-Dive tomorrow

Hi all, Just to let you know the try a dive will start at 8pm in Coolock pool on monday. (north side shopping center). If you are getting a lift, please meet outside the main reception for dcu at 7:15, absolute latest 7:20, this is so we can get you to the pool on time and sort out the gear. The main reception is beside the back of the business school, there is a set down parking area there. If anyone doesnt know it or cannot find it tomorrow, you can give me a call on 085 7251365. [DCU SAC] Mondays try a dive and pool test

Hi all, For those of you who don't know me, Im john, the clubs training officer. I'll be helping to organise and run the training within the club over the next few months. First off, Mondays try-a-dive. Hate to spam you all about it but if you plan on going please email me letting me know, particularly if you need or can offer a lift from DCU to the pool. Secondly, quick reminder that as the semester goes on all members of the club will have to do their pool test. You have to do three things to be allowed dive for the year, -Snorkel or swim 200m without stopping -Snorkel dive with fins and mask and fin a distance of 25m underwater -Tow a snorkel diver 50m Its straight forward and i doubt anyone will have issues, keep in mind returning members will need to attend at least 4 of the Thursday night sessions for fitness training before taking the test. Lastly, don't forget new members will need to get a medical done before diving. Also, any returning member will need one if they have reached the age of 35 years young, or their medical status has changed since their last medical. Everyone else needs to log into COMS on CFT <http://www.cft.ie/> and sign off their annual medical disclaimer. (This is *important*, don't forget!) Hey everyone, It was great to meet you all last and again I would like to welcome you all to the DCU SAC. For those of you that couldn't make it to our meeting last night I have attached a copy of the welcome pack documents we gave out. Have a read of these and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. We will be hosting our Try-Dive at Northside Swimming pool (on top of the Northside shopping centre in coolock) next Monday (Oct 18th). If you have never tried SCUBA before I would highly recommend you come along and give it a try. If you do plan on coming please respond to our training officer John Needham at the address given above. We generally arrange lifts to the pool so we would like to have an idea of how many people are likely to attend. We will meet at the roundabout just inside the gate of the Collins Avenue entrance of DCU (nearing nursing and the NCSR building). For those of you with previous diving qualifications can you please respond to me with the details. I will then look into the CMAS equivalence grades so I can advise you on the level at which you would enter our club. This will potentially affect you membership fee and the training you will have to undertake. We will be holding an intro meeting on Wednesday (13th) at 7 o'clock in Q119 (Business School) where we'll give you a run down on the club structure, equipment, training schedule and diving trips. We hope you will all come along. It's a great opportunity for new and returning members to meet and we'll be heading over to Matt Wheldon's (The Slipper) on the Ballymun road for a few drinks and some finger food after the meeting so we can all get to know each other better.
