Festive Greetings all, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. It's nearly time to get in the sea at last! We're off to Carraroe in Connemara from 19 - 21st February for our annual snorkel trip. You don’t want to miss this one! I've provisionally booked two 4* lodges which accommodate 8 people each: http://www.carraroeholidaycottages.ie/about.htm These are a short distance from the coral strand (the only coral beach in Europe) and right beside the main pub in the town. Carraroe is a gorgeous spot where they all speak Irish!!! All trainees have to do 5 snorkels before diving in the sea to allow for acclimatisation to the water temperature. Current members must do 3 snorkels each. Therefore this is an excellent opportunity for all members to get their snorkels signed off and ………have a massive party. The weekend is subsidised by the club but should cost around €50-60 per person which will include food, accommodation and some booze. You’ll also need to budget for petrol and tolls (approx €70 per car). If you want to go please let me know by Mon 17th January at the latest as I may need to book extra accommodation. There is another lodge or cottage or extra mattresses available – preference will be given to those who reply first! Please do not assume that I will psychically know that you are coming no matter how special you think you are! Also please state in your reply if you need a lift or are able to offer someone a lift down. I’m hoping to make it 3 to a car where possible as we shouldn’t have too much gear. [DCU SAC] Wet suits and training

Hi all, First, there is training on next Monday (20th Dec) in Coolock as usual. If you're around make sure to get down there. Second, over the christmas holidays/early January, you're going to need to pick up a wet suit for Snorkeling and Diving. Attached are some examples and links (kindly provided by Aoibhs), don't be put off by the price, you'll be using these regularly for a few years. Having said that, dont get a suit you'll "grow in to", if your suit is to big the water will flow through the suit (through the cuffs) and keep you chilly. Better to get one thats a good fit and just lay off the pies. :) You'll also need to get yourself a pair of gloves, so try pick these up too. You may find it better to wait until the sales in January (I know flag ship are doing one), or try and get a package. Any questions feel free to email me, see you this thursday in DCU. Thanks, John

Thanks to everyone who sponsored Feargal, Fintan or myself for the snowy sea swim on Saturday and an even bigger thanks to Fearg, Fintan, Dave and Aoibheann for braving the freezing cold and getting in the sea. Hello all, Change of venue for tomorrow night as it may be too much hassle for people to get to Rathmines with all the snow :( We are now going to Milanos in Temple Bar - Essex St/Quay to be exact. Everyone's pizza or main course will be paid for by the club so you'll just need to cover your own booze and any desserts/starters you desire. We have the table booked from 7 - 9....... We are meeting in the Foggy Dew pub beside Central Bank on Dame St. for an appeterif at 6 o'clock. Please make an effort to come on time -we'll be leaving for the restaurant at 6.45.
