Evening everyone!
Hope things are well and welcome to all of our new members! If you are unfamiliar this is the weekly Gamessoc announce email that I will be sending out every weekend telling you all that's going on in the coming week, and with that let's get to it!
Here is what's going on in Gamessoc for the coming week:
- Trad Gaming: Monday Only - - Console Gaming: As Normal - - PC Gaming: Currently offline - - PC Gaming: Clyde Night - - Humans vs Zombies - - Gamessoc EGM and Freshers Ball -
- - Trad Gaming: Monday Only - - Trad Gaming will be back with our big stack of board, card games and more. So grab a game or pull up a chair at another game and have some fun! You can find them on Mondays in XG01 from 6pm-10pm however not this Wednesday due to our EGM and Freshers Ball will be happening this week!
- - Console Gaming: As Normal - - Consoles returns again this week and we have a big trolley of TV's, consoles and bags of games and controllers for you to relax (or get really into) after the Wednesday lunch rush! As per the usual they will be set up on Wednesday from 2pm-5pm in XG01.
- - PC Gaming: Currently offline - - It's that time of year again where we sadly must be patient and wait for the computers to be imaged while not exactly enjoyable is quite necessary. We will let you know ASAP when PC gaming will be back up and running.
- - PC Gaming: Clyde Night - - While PC Gaming in the labs might not be here for a little bit we do have something else to offer! Clyde Night is when we as a society jump onto our Teamspeak server [clyde.games.dcu.ie] to play some pc games together such as Team Fortress 2, Trouble in Terrorist Town or any other game people want to play together! We are aiming to get this going around 7pm-8pm this Tuesday however keep an eye out here and on our facebook page (link below) for the exact time and further details!
If you have never heard or used Teamspeak before it's a VoIP program (Voice over Internet Protocol, think similar to Skype for example but only audio with different channels or rooms) where we can all chat to each other while we play games! Download the client here: https://www.teamspeak.com/downloads and install it. When you have it loaded up (if a setup wizard pops up go through it to set up your mic and such, you can always change it later in options or run it again in the settings tab) and click on the Bookmarks tab and click on Manage Bookmarks. Click on Add Bookmark and change the following boxes to this:
Label: DCU Gamessoc Address: clyde.games.dcu.ie Nickname: Whatever you call yourself and what people will see you as.
Click OK and then go back to Bookmarks tab and click on the bookmark you just made e.g. DCU Gamessoc and boom you are on our Teamspeak server in the lobby channel.
From here you can double click to change channel, click the buttons above
to mute your mic and/or speaker. This should be enough to get you started and if you have any questions feel free to ask or email us!
- - Humans vs Zombies - - Our annual HvZ event is returning this year during week 4 so ready your NERF guns and rolled up socks, you have some time to prepare! If you are unfamiliar with what exactly Humans vs Zombies is check out this link for more info! https://humansvszombies.org/ For those of you who don't have a NERF gun we will also be having a raffle so that you lucky survivors can win yourself your own NERF gun to fight off the hordes with! We are planning to have it this Thursday at around 5pm however keep an eye here for more information on when we will be having it!
- - Gamessoc EGM and Freshers Ball - - Our annual EGM at the start of the year is at hand! It will be happening this Wednesday at 6pm in XG01.
So what does that involve? Well we shall be electing the following for the coming year: - First year rep - Treasurer - Console Officer So if any of these positions interest you and are thinking about running email us at gamessoc@redbrick.dcu.ie with your name, student number and what position you want to run for! Also we have a facebook event for it, check it out: https://www.facebook.com/events/145605745790807/
This will lead into our annual (I'm saying this word a lot it seems) Freshers Ball with Redbrick and Game Dev Soc! After our EGM we will be heading down to Matt Weldons pub (also known as the slipper) for 8pm. If you don't know where it is go out the ballymun road entrance to DCU, cross the road and go right and it's just there before the spar, here's a map as well for you:
https://www.google.ie/maps/place/Matt+Weldon/@53.3857328,-6.2645111,16z/data...
We shall be hanging out and having a few drinks (no pressure if you don't want to drink) and getting to know each other better and have some laughs along the way! There will also be food to eat and drinks deals for the night as well just so you know! There is also a Facebook event page for this so give that a look as well! https://www.facebook.com/events/1673941466174690/
I believe that's everything that's happening this week and I'll see you next time!
