Hi all, Just a friendly reminder about renewing your accounts this year. Clubs and Socs day two is tomorrow, and for those of you who haven't already renewed for 2007/8, it's the ideal time to do so. We're right in the centre of the main area of the hub (the Atrium) - between Comic Soc and Filmsoc, and we'll be there from 10AM tomorrow until about 4PM. Simpsons Movie Trip this Thursday! New Redbrick Banner!

Hi all, Hope the exams went well (for those of you still in college), if not I'll be seeing you next month for the repeats :) = Cinema Trip = This Thursday, there'll be a Redbrick trip to UGC/Cineworld to see the new Simpsons Movie! Granted, there hasn't been a good episode yet this century, but it could still be fun! Besides, we'll be giving tickets to everyone who comes along for just 5 euro! The movie starts at 7.40, but we'll be meeting outside Cineworld at 7.15. We're going to be booking tickets in advance, so visit https://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/events/movies/ to sign up. Hey everyone, Welcome back to a new year in DCU! And a big hello to all alumni! Short Version: o Freshers Ball, The Vaults [under Connolly Station], 10th of October @ 8pm o EGM for the position of Admin, 11th October o Hoodies, 30, mail hoodies(a)redbrick.dcu.ie More info below... Detailed Version: Clubs and Socs days were this Tuesday and Wednesday, so expect many newbs in the coming weeks! It was a great success with many CA1s as well as other students joining up. This coming Tuesday the 10th is Redbrick's Fresher Ball. As usual this event is completely free to our members! Venue: The Vaults, IFSC, under Connolly Station. Band: Scrhoe, DJ til late. Date: 10th Oct Time: 8pm Price: FREE to members or 4 for guests! Government ID required! We really hope to get a good attendance from first years, but we'd really like to see many familiar faces. After all, it is the users that make Redbrick! We have an EGM coming up in Week Three to elect an Admin! There will be an admin test on Monday the 9th of October, and the EGM will be two days after on the 11th. If you are interested please mail admins(a)redbrick.dcu.ie Wooooo! We have a Hoodies!! Dear RedBrick users, Our primary login server will be moving from Carbon (Dell Poweredge) to Murphy (Sun T2000) as of August 1st. This change should be virtually unnoticeable for most users. However for those who have compiled anything from source, you will need to recompile your code once we move to the new machine. We hope for the transition to be as smooth as possible. BSA debate cancellation, and say hello to our new committee!

Hello everybody, Summary: * The debate with the BSA has been cancelled. * New committee elected at the AGM, but there's one Admin position left! == BSA Debate == This has been cancelled due to lack of interest from the student body. With it being so close to the end of term with deadlines approaching and exam timetables going up a lot of students just don't have the time to take part. AGM exams

Hi, As you all know, the AGM is fast approaching. If anyone is interested in running for the positions of Helpdesk ( Education Officer ), System Administrator, or Webmaster, they have to take a small test. The System Administrator test will be on this coming Friday, at 8pm, meeting in the lobby of the CA building. There are samples of the test up on http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/about/admins/ for anyone interested. The Webmaster test will be on Monday at 7pm, again, meeting in the lobby of the CA building. Samples are at the bottom of this page http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/about/admins/ Just a quick note for any webmaster candidates. Starting this year, the position of webmaster will no longer come with root privileges as standard. If a candidate wishes to take root, he or she will have to pass an aditional root test later on ( to be held after the AGM ). Any questions, comments, or suggestions about this, mail webmaster(a)redbrick.dcu.ie The helpdesk test is on this Monday at 8pm, meeting in the lobby of the CA building. Redbrick & BSA's Software Piracy Debate

Do you have strong feelings on the issue of software piracy? Want to win prizes by expressing them? Then read on... Business Software Alliance (BSA) in association with Redbrick are putting on one of DCU's biggest debates this year. The motion for this debate is: "Software Piracy - Will it drain the lifeblood of Ireland's fastest growing industry?" This debate deals with the issue of software piracy and not only its effect on the industry but also the moral issues behind it. The act of pirating software is illegal but is it merely a product of overpricing on the part of software companies? Is this reason a good enough one to force companies out of business through piracy? Is software too expensive to begin with? We are currently seeking anyone (students/lecturers/alumni) who would like to participate in this debate, so if you have strong opinions on this subject and a good head for debating, please mail bsa-debate(a)lists.redbrick.dcu.ie with your occupation/faculty and a synopsis of your main points for debate (100 words max). Closing date for entries is the 10th of April. 12 people will then be picked from the submissions (2 teams of 4 and 2 alternates for each team) and will go on to debate on the 20th of April! If you are one of the lucky people to get through to take part, you'll be informed by the 13th of April, and will be in with a chance to win big prizes! Also, BSA and Redbrick will be conducting a survey on software piracy from April 7th until April 19th, so don't forget to have YOUR say. Apologies on the late announcement, we were arranging these fantabulous prizes for your consumption... How would you like to win FREE cinema for a FULL YEAR? Well, now's your chance! Come along and enter Redbrick's annual table quiz and be in with a shot at winning a voucher for a Cineworld card, meaning... Free cinema trips for a year to the victorious team! Not to mention other great prizes for second and third place, and a host of raffle and spot prizes too. Entry is only 4e a head, and there are four people to a table.
