Attention all Diplomats! Borucon III, the third Irish National Diplomacy Championships [hence the III], will be taking place in the Teacher's Club in Parnell Square the weekend after this one, December 6th-8th [Friday-Sunday]. Even if you can't commit to all the rounds, come along to just one or two - there will be players coming from Sweden, France, England, Belgium, and probably a few other countries as well. The last two Borucons have been good fun and if I remember correctly, our esteemed President, Declan Mc Auley, attended Borucon I, although he is free to correct me on this point. Borucon I was held at Gaelcon in 2000, but since then it has been an independently-run Con dedicated to Diplomacy and last year, we hosted the European Championships here in Dublin. I sense your amazement... For those of you who don't know what Diplomacy is, it is a strategical board game, set in Europe in 1901, in which the main aim is to control as many supply centres [certain marked territories] by the end of the game. These are generally captured by a combination of lying, tactical awareness and a bit more lying. Check out http://www.diplom.org for more details and mail me if you're interested. Regards, Muiris Ó Donnchú, CS1, DCU.
