Professor Allan Chapman - New Year Lecture & DVD On Monday, January 25, our 20th Anniversary Public Lecture will be given by none other than Professor Allan Chapman. Professor Chapman will give a talk entitled '400 Years of the Telescope, from Thomas Harriot to Hubble' and promises to treat the audience to one of the theatrical performances he is notorious for. Professor Chapman has presented many TV programmes including Channel 4 Series 'Gods in the Sky' as well as appearing on BBC's long-running 'The Sky at Night' with Sir Patrick Moore. He is a brilliant public speaker with a unique presentation style as well as a vast knowledge of the history of astronomy. The lecture takes place in Trinity College Dublin at 8pm and tickets cost 5euro(members) or 7euro(non-members). A DVD is available for anyone who cannot make it to the lecture on the night. International Space Station Visible In Evening Skies Don't forget the International Space Station (ISS) is visible in Irish evening skies again until January 23. For times to watch the Space Station predictions are available on various websites on the internet, however to receive a text message to your phone with the predicted time it will pass over simply text SPACE to 57003. Each text costs 1euro and proceeds help us promote astronomy in Ireland. For more information click HERE. Evening Classes Nationwide Our extremely popular Evening Classes begin again nationwide in the first week of February. The classes are aimed at the beginner and cover everything you ever wanted to know about the Universe. There are 8 classes in total and content covered includes an introduction to the night sky, the Sun and the Moon, planets and stars, history of astronomy, deep sky objects, the big bang and even a class on telescopes and how to use one.
