Ahoy Campers! It's time for another fun filled week of escapades with your favourite group of on-campus nutters. The party kicks off at 8.15 Monday over at the Space in the HELIX, with our debut performance of Shakespeare's "Scottish Play". We've prepared a modernised, contemporary version of the show, which basically means we've left out the boring crap and added more guns (guns, lots of guns). MacBeth will be running at 8.15 on Monday to Thursday nights this week, with a matinee set for 2pm Wednesday. AND for the bargain-bin price of just 6 Euro, you get to see Ambition, Greed, Lunacy, Regicide and Murder! (I've forgotten the names of the other two dwarfs, sorry). BUT THERE'S MORE ! If you should produce one of our much-coveted (and stylish) DCU Drama membership cards, we'll let you in for a ridiculous 4 Euro. We're cutting our own throats here... Tickets are available from the Box Office at the HELIX, and Drama will be running a stand in the HUB all week, be sure to stop by. We are looking for volunteers to lend a hand selling tickets at our stand, so if you have a free hour or two during the week and would like to help out, give me a shout at dramabob(a)gmail.com. So come and see MacBeth, a gritty tale of conspiracy and blood (lots of blood). ALSO THIS WEEK: Congrats to those who won a part in this year's musical, "Sweet Charity" ! Rehearsals will begin immediately, with a FULL cast read-through in XG14 at 6pm tonight (Monday). Be there or be a two-dimensional geometric object with 4 sides of equal length (a square, dammit!). Ahoy gang, WE GOT THE HELIX !!!!! We are in the Space for all five shows next week - myself, Elaine and Lisa met with Marie-Louise this morning and negotiated a deal. Venue issues solved. Of course with this news comes many more issues... We have two lighting riggers for five hours on Monday morning for a get in and possibly a tech run through. In an ideal world, we would get the lighting rigged in three hours and follow it with a run through. But that's not my department... We need to arrange a meeting for about 1pm today if possible, I know that it's extremely short notice. At this meeting we need to have Claire, Conor, Dave, myself, Gary, Elaine. Priority number one: Lighting. Claire and conor need to sit down and prepare specific lighting instructions and cues etc for the riggers. We will be shown how to work the desk, for those who don't know jow to use it. But we definitely need to walk in there monday morning with a detailed lighting plan. Elaine tells me that the rigging layout is available on the Helix website. Claire and Conor may need to meet with Marie-Louise Friday to sort out a few details... DCU Drama to perform Shakespeare's MacBeth DCU Drama Society is taking the plunge this season and for the first time will be performing one of Shakespeare's most celebrated works - MacBeth, the great Scottish Tragedy. A drum, a drum! MacBeth doth come! This gruesomely infamous soul searing tale of ambition, greed and murder is retold by DCU Drama in a modern gothic setting. Young Gun Conor Farrell takes the reins, directing Mark Watson (MacBeth) and Laura Whitmore (Lady MacBeth) in what is even by today's demanding standards, an all too relevant and disturbing story. An updated version, retaining the original Shakespearean dialogue while making use of contemporary settings, music and attire, this classic story of one man's fall from grace is not to be missed. This is an all-student production that guarantees to be rambunctious, bloody and unforgettable. The production will run in the Venue at the HUB in DCU from Monday Feb. 21st - Thursday Feb. 24th at 8pm. On Wednesday the 23rd there will be a matinee at 2pm in addition to the main show. Tickets are a ludicrous E6 for evening shows and just E4 for DCU Drama members or those with a flyer. Tickets for the matinee are priced at E4.
