[Drama-Committee] Orientation Week (again)
Ahoy troopers, The end is night and I am counting down my last few days at work over here! Yayness! (nessnessnessness). There is much to do for orientation week to lure the unsuspecting ickle first years into our fold though. A few ideas that I had: Charlie, first off, great work sorting out those email addresses. Now we need to have them advertised on the website! And we need to update the website (still showing stuff about the DADAs). My thought is to have it ready BEFORE orientation week - have the opening page with a sort of "Hi and welcome back to another year of fun filled madness in DCU Drama! Or if you're new, then you're in for a treat!" or words to that effect. Talk about the great times that we had last year, links to photos of said great times, and promise more of the same for this year. Get together with Joe M (thanks Joe) and come up with a quality line of bullshit. Include a schedule of upcoming events on the opening page for orientation week, and constant updates thereafter... We need this done SOON, if we are gonna put the website on our flyer for the orientation packs, it'd want to be worth looking at! Speaking of those flyers, what do we have planned for them? I'm thinking a brief overview of the past triumphs we've had (best society in Ireland etc) along with snippets of the fun and games had by all last year. Emphasise the FUN aspect of DCU Drama, how it makes meeting new people easier bla bla bla. Say that acting is NOT necessary (for the stage shy) and we run many tech related workshops for those willing to help out etc. Include a schedule of upcoming events, like what we have planned for fresher's week and encourage suggestions. Make it eye catching too, as we all know how how much of the contents of those packs that the kids just throw away. Have we got volunteers to stuff the fresher's packs? That should be happening soon. It's all very well chatting about doing this stuff, but time is running out, and we need bodies! Orientation week speeches: when/where/who/what? That should sum up all that I need to know. I will be able to help out by thursday, but need to know what we have proposed to say, as I haven't done this sort of thing before (and we are NOT ad-libbing it). Posters! We need the campus destroyed with posters for the next 5 weeks. DCU Drama wants YOU! etc. Stickers! The trophy shop on Marlborough Street will make stickers for us at a great discount, but we gotta get the design to them. Elaine and I spoke to this guy last year and he is more than willing to help. We need those stickers for the orientation packs, the kids will put them up everywhere, and it's free advertising! Paper-clip them to the flyer, so that they don't get lost at the bottom of the bag. I hear that we wanna get the esteemed Martin French in on Friday for a session of drama games and madness. Excellent, I trust Dave is working on that one. We need to get a hold of Martin soon, before he gets wrapped up in St.Pat's type stuff. If he can't do it on Friday, see if we can organise another day OR see if we can get Alan Kinsella. Karaoke night! I hear that the SU has booked both bars for two weeks solid. Not good enough. If memory serves, the Drama karaoke last year went on BEFORE the music started, at about 5.30. This is still doable. They can't have bands in there all day. Don't give up so easily. There's a new events co-ordinator type person in the union, Shea something-or-other. Dave, I know how you love to lock horns with the union, please see what you can do about this. If we can get it organised (and even 4 or 5 in the afternoon, thursday, wouldn't be too bad - let's face it, the fresher's are going to spend the week in the bar anyway), we then need to sort out PRIZES! Shelly, where are ya?? Right, it's 9am, I gotta go to work. Guys, thanks for driving the bus all summer, now let's put it in fifith and get out on the fucking highway. Oh Jesus not this again.... :P

Cool, I'm more than willing to offer my bullshit for this event / product.

We're hitting that nail in the head monday. I've got a guy who'll do Tech workshops, and he's fucking brillant. He does sound and lights, and is reknowned for his skill. He's also bang on, and cheap me thinks. (He'd do it for free but we're best off paying him, to be fair!)
Have we got volunteers to stuff the fresher's packs? That should be happening soon. It's all very well chatting about doing this stuff, but

I'm the poor bitch on pack duty! The SU arrange that.

We've got him for Wednesday Bob. More people ;) Two sessions.

Actually, that's not what happened at all. As of the last meeting, we were still working under the assumption we'd have a karoke, wherein I also said that we always needed prizes and to get as much as you could because we always use them. No matter, we'll sort something out. ~Non Curo Hombre.. Si Mentrum non habet, non est Poema!~
well dave that was what was said at the meeting. but i subsequently found out in an email that the bar was booked out which left me with the immpression that prizes would not be needed as there was no karaoke and i wasn't told otherwise On 9/12/05, David Grimes <david.grimes2@mail.dcu.ie> wrote:
