I just wanna apologise for interrupting Dave when he was speaking today. I know there's no excuse for that kind of behaviour but I was just getting a bit frustrated that we were spending so much time discussing Elaine's proposal. I've also made the decision not to run for committee next year. I know there's no real need to announce this in a committee e-mail but I just didn't want people to be surprised when I don't go forward next week. Joey
No probs dude, it was wrecking my head too. To be honest the problem is the entire committee had not got together and discussed the proposal. So effectively, we've introduced a position with no real hard outline and in reality have probably made future drama committees less rather than more effective. This is not a snipe at anyone, but really highlights the fact that even with 10 people we cannot get time to all get in a room together. With 11 or 12, It's going to be even worse, but that's for next year's people. I think next week we'll have to go with Tuesday, sorry Joe. I was approached by three prospective committee members who said they wanted to stay and run, and are only available next Tuesday and Monday, and Monday is a no go because some cool guy came back from the dead. The question outstanding now is whether we want to redo everything or just the remaining positions. Well done to Steve and Eoin, by the way. Their margins were quite high so I doubt there would be any change with a re-vote but should we do it regardless? All comments on this would be welcome. Next week, if you guys want, I can run the entire system debate style, with a 2/3 min time limit cap and quick vote system. We need someone to chair it, and yesterday this is where we kind of fell down, which brings me neatly to my next point. I felt personally attacked at the meeting yesterday, and in retrospect I was disappointed with the support from the committee. The meeting was indeed difficult, and the proposals numerous but in all reality this was for the benefit of our members, and was hardly a selfish thing. I was flattered to be nominated for chair, and really would have loved to go for it but unless I'm sure I can give 110% I will not take it. Several of you heard an individual up the front state loudly during the applause at my concession "Sure the little fucker didn't get it, why should we be clapping him?" which I admit irked me somewhat. The same individual berated me when I took back the voting sheets in the interest of fairness and aimmed personal abuse at me twice more when I was collecting papers. This person was loud, and most members there heard her. But I could not respond because I wanted to keep the proceedings fair and professional, after working so hard to get so many people interested. I am, however, saddened that my own friends and collegues would not have intervened or made a caution to that person in question, for I know had the situation been reversed I would have most certainly asked them to conduct themselves or leave. The conclusion seems to be that the committee do not have enough collective respect for me, and I admit I'm curious as to why that is. I know I won't always agree with committee decisions, but I have always supported them, and after giving up three years of my time in DCU to Drama committee, this is not a pleasant end to it. In light of the above, I will state clearly and for the record that should I receive one iota of personal abuse, taunting or passive-aggressive behaviour, that I will make a very severe issue and example of whomever directs that acid my direction, or indeed, anyone elses. By definition Bob is the chair, and thus should be running meetings with proper decorem and regulations. In practice, Bob is more PR, or 'the public face of drama', which is a good thing and no insult (and, in reality, a sucessful venture), but for next week means that he should be in charge of the meeting and control it, or defer chairing of the meeting to someone else. I would welcome any comments on these issues. Can we call a meeting for lunchtime tomorrow? Joey Kavanagh wrote:

Sorry to reply again, but I left out a critical point; Joey, I honestly think that you should run for committee. You have impressed me no end this year, and I think if you decided not to run it would be a terrible loss for drama. Please reconsider your decision. I agree with Dave. Joey i think its a terrible shame that you aren't running and i do hope you'll reconsider. As for those taunts Dave i have to be honest and say that i didn't hear anything said when you said you couldn't run for chair. My apologies about the mix up with the ballot papers. I'm a tithead. But as soon as you started to do that i left the room because i had to be back in time for the show and at that point it was 7.30 so i heard none of this abuse and i'm now very curious as to what lil shit felt they had the right to shout random abuse. It can be fine if its a little bit of banter but this doesn't seem to be the case and thats just not on. May i suggest a formal waring to this person if they turn up at the next AGM. Something has to be said about it. You can't just let something like that go and i can see why you felt you didn't have the backing of committee. Its all fine and well me saying that i would have said something if i was there but i wasn't so that doesn't matter. The point is I believe this person should be warned and if they do not adhere to the warning in the next AGM then expulsion from the meeting is the only answer I believe. Hey all, Just in respect to everything... Dave, I didn't realize that someone shouted abuse when you stepped down from chair- that's an absolute shamble and I agree with Dave that the meeting should be chaired more efficiently and also that someone should say something to the offender (whoever she is) and do as Shelly said, it is completely unfair that anyone be subject to that... but Elaine's point went on for way too long and granted I asked alot of questions about it, i still felt the matter could of been dealt with quicker. Speaking of Elaine, I feel sorry for the committee. As it neared 8pm, and people had left, Elaine proceeded to shout down at the committee from the top of the lecture theatre. This was uncalled for and made drama look extremely unprofessional- perhaps someone would like to mention it to her that if she has something to say to the committee, that she say it politely and in confidence, and not shout it out in front of the general members. Also, Joey I urge you to reconsider running for position next year, your experience and professionalism are a must in next years committee. I think tuesday or thursday would be good for AGM??? Anyway, we better let the members know (so we have quorum!) Steve On 4/12/06, Michelle Ni Fhaircheallaigh <meathgirl@gmail.com> wrote:

Oh god. First off, I would like to say the following regarding Joey's decision not to run for ctte next year. PLEASE don't let last night's kerfuffle put you off! You're a very strong committee member, a hard worker, a good friend and top class at what you do. I hereby beg you to reconsider... Dave, the committee has the ultimate respect for you. We also know exactly what Roisin is like, and therefore can safely ignore her. She's loud, extremely opinionated and very outspoken. And she loves to slag people. Who doesn't? I will readily admit that the bulk of her slagging is aimed at you - the two of you will never see eye to eye, I fear. Should she attend the rescheduled AGM, I would propose that we issue a warning to her should she start mouthing off again (about anyone, not just you). Might I also remind you that you publicly slagged a committee member over his/her dedication in front of the AGM. People are entitled to their opinions, no matter how inappropriate they are perceived to be. Dave, you're a very good friend, and if I thought that there was anything malicious or downright vicious in the comments made by Roisin at the AGM, I would have admonished her. We all engaged in a bit of slagging at the AGM (how many times were the words "your ma's cock" used?). I do agree that pointed, personal insults are out of order though. I agree with you that the committee need to show a bit more solidarity, and that my chairing of the AGM was substandard. I apologise profusely to you all. The AGM has been the only event that DCU Drama have held this year I am not proud of. *sighs* As for the logistics and whatnot, here's my thoughts... Hindsight being 20-20 vision, yes the position of Training Officer should have been discussed at committee level. What we have to do now (seeing as what's done is done) is sit down and define exactly what it is that officer should do (Elaine sent a fairly comprehensive suggestion to the announce drama list). We, and the new ctte have all summer to do that, assuming that we elect a training officer next week. The first two positions elected were achieved while we had a quorum of voters - I see no reason to recall those two positions. I do realise that there was the whole thing about people voting and then leaving. Grrrr. The question is: Do we announce the winners to the announce-drama list, OR do we wait until the entire ctte has been elected? I realise that should we re-hold the elections for those two positions, the same two people will probably get in. In my opinion, that's another reason not to have a re-vote - it'll waste time. There's nothing in the Drama constitution that states the committee has to be all elected at a single meeting, so I don't see why it's a problem. I sincerely hope that the events that transpired yesterday will not put off anyone from their original intention of running for committee - we have had a record year, and I'd hate to see Drama fall on its arse next year because of this. With that in mind, it is my opinion that Tuesday, 6 or 7pm is no good for the following reasons: Alan Keegan, who has expressed great interest in running for Tech Officer, will be operating tech for the Choral Showcase. Joe Murray will be there also. Susan Bourke, who has expressed great interest in running for Secretary, will be performing at the showcase. If Music Soc have their way, there will be a performance from Guys and Dolls, thereby stealing many cast members from the musical. And you can say what you like about the musical, be it good or bad, but without musical cast members yesterday, we would never have achieved quorum. Bugger. And there's a few in that cast that rumour has it are thinking of running - Mark, Susan Doyle & Liana, to name three. The showcase starts at 8pm Tuesday night - how does 5pm Tuesday sound? If this is done right, we'll be outta there within 45 mins. In other news, I would like to suggest that those of us going to Cork tomorrow bring a Reservoir Dogs black & white type suit for the formal dinner, a la Macbeth last year. Fuck yeah! Finally, without fear of getting weepy (again!) I would like to say that it has been a magical year working, playing, laughing and having fun with all of you guys. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. Thank you all for making my life a whole lot happier *cries* (goddammit!)\ Bob, flinging in his two cents On 4/12/06, Michelle Ni Fhaircheallaigh <meathgirl@gmail.com> wrote:

The showcase starts at 8pm Tuesday night - how does 5pm Tuesday sound? If this is done right, we'll be outta there within 45 mins.
In other news, I would like to suggest that those of us going to Cork tomorrow bring a Reservoir Dogs black & white type suit for the formal dinner, a la Macbeth last year. Fuck yeah!
Finally, without fear of getting weepy (again!) I would like to say that it has been a magical year working, playing, laughing and having fun with all of you guys. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
Thank you all for making my life a whole lot happier *cries* (goddammit!)\

Thats my 2 cents worth anywho

Joey, I honestly think that you should run for committee. You have impressed me no end this year, and I think if you decided not to run it would be a terrible loss for drama. Please reconsider your decision. I'm pretty sure I speak for everyone when I say that yor level headedness will be a major asset to DCU Drama next year.

I've also made the decision not to run for committee next year. I know there's no real need to announce this in a committee e-mail but I just didn't want people to be surprised when I don't go forward next week.

Here's a draft of what I'd like to post to the announce-drama list (tonight, if possible). Suggestions / changes / etc? Lemme know. Ahoy Gang, Last night's AGM was one of the more tumultuous events of the DCU Drama year! The night started at 6pm with an address by Bob and then the entire committee gave an explanation of their duties and how they felt they fared in their efforts throughout the year. Most of us were happy with our progress! Following that, there were a few constitutional changes proposed, namely the creation of the committee positions of Training Officer and Set Manager. This led to a lively and heated debate with many members offering their two cents. The upshot of all that was that the position of Training Officer was created, while the debate over Set Manager was postponed until our EGM next October. Then the moment we all were waiting for....the election of the new committee! Unfortunately, the previous debate ate up a lot of time. The elections didn't start until about 7.20pm! There were three candidates for Chair - Stephen Grimes, John Cannon and Ashley Dooley Martyn. David Grimes was also nominated, but refused the nomination, citing a heavy academic workload for his upcoming final year. After they all gave a speech, the voting started. In a close race, Steve was elected chair for next year. Well done Steve! In the Vice-Chair race, Eoin O Callaghan ran against John and Ashley (who both re-ran, having lost out on the race for chair) ...and Eoin was elected! Well done Eoin! By the time we got to the election for Vice-Chair, it was rapidly approaching 8pm. More than a few people, due to prior engagements (and the unexpected over-run of time) began to get up and leave. Before the election for the position of secretary, DCU Drama lost quorum at the AGM, and Bob adjourned the meeting. Elections performed without quorum are not valid, so there was no point in continuing. We have, with that in mind, called ANOTHER AGM Tuesday 18th, 5pm, CG86 to finish off electing the rest of the committee. Don't miss it - and bring your friends! We need quorum (again!). See ya there, Bob On 4/12/06, Eoin O' Callaghan <supernova6@gmail.com> wrote:

Yesterday was a minor blip...some stuff happened that wasn't scheduled to happen but that's circumstance...
Joey, please, please, please, please, re-consider your decision. Your contribution to this year's success can NOT be underestimated. Please have a think about this Joey...
We're DRAMA- stuff like this shouldn't affect us...Let's move on...Let's go to Cork tomorrow...Let's bring home another fucking trophy...

Having just read Steve's email,
I agree that the Bannonne was out of order at the meeting, and one reason that I didn't shout back up at her was so that the entire AGM didn't degenerate into a screaming match. Which it did anyway, sort of. *sighs again*

*sighs*
As for the logistics and whatnot, here's my thoughts...
With that in mind, it is my opinion that Tuesday, 6 or 7pm is no good for the following reasons:
Alan Keegan, who has expressed great interest in running for Tech Officer, will be operating tech for the Choral Showcase.
