- Demonware Talk -
So this week is 'Techweek', and as part of Techweek GamesSoc will be
hosting a games development talk by Demonware, a maker of network
middleware for the gaming industry. Demonware have worked on games such as
Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, Call of Duty 3, Call of Duty 4: Modern
Warfare, Splinter Cell: Double Agent and Rainbow Six: Vegas.
Demonware are one of the top middleware companies in the gaming industry,
and one of the most successful games development companies to originate in
Ireland. This talk is a rare opportunity to hear from professionals in the
gaming industry first hand, so if you're interested in the gaming industry
this is must-attend event!
- Build your own PC -
At 4pm on Wednesday, after the Demonware talk GamesSoc will be hosting a
'build your own PC' tutorial given by our very own PC Ents. Officer Sean
Hand! Sean will be going over the basics of how to go about building your
own PC from scratch, which can be quite tricky!
- Lab Gaming -
On Thursday Lab Gaming returns after its week long hiatus! We'll be in
C204 in the Henry Grattan building from 6pm playing CounterStrike, Quake,
Age of Empires and all the rest! :)
We'd also like to mention that during the week, GamesSoc held an all night
charity event in the Mezz as part of Rag Week and I'm delighted to say we
raised over 150 for charity! Thanks to everyone who came out and rocked
rock band until 4 or so in the morning! The event was a huge success, and
we look forward to even more fun during Techweek 2008!

- Christmas Party
- LAN recap
- Consoles -
This week console gaming will be on at 3.30 in the seminar room, and will
be the first time we use our brand new 32" Samsung LCD TV, GamesSocs early
Christmas present to itself! :) Which means we'll be able to run a lot
more consoles now! The Wii, 360, PS3 and Guitar Hero will all be setup, oh
and we'll have lots of free refreshments too.
- Lab Gaming -
Yes we're all very very tired after the 24 hour LAN...but you should all
be rested up by now, and ready for some pc gaming! Lab Gaming will be on @
6pm, Thursday in C204 in the Henry Grattan Building.
- Christmas Party -
Also on Thursday is the GamesSoc, Redbrick & Drama Christmas Party. Things
kick off @ 8pm across the road in the Slipper (Matt Weldons Pub). A large
group will be heading over after lab gaming so turn up to that and then
relax afterwards at the party. GamesSoc will be providing entertainment in
the form of consoles setup for everyone to play. There will be free mince
pies and mulled wine too!
- LAN -
24 hours later... much fun was had by all, and we had a great turnout. We
gamed long and hard into the night and held tournaments in UT3, CS:S and
Worms. The winner of UT3 was Barballs, who took the win in a heated final.
CS:S was won by a team consisting of undone, revenant, coconut and joe5ie,
in what turned out to be a very close tournament. The winner of our
mystery game, which was Worms!, was terroteck. Congratulations to all the
winners!
So we have a great week ahead as we come close to the end of the semester.
Just a quick thanks to everyone who turned up for the LAN and made it a
kickass event! Hope to see you all next semester for a bigger & better
BYOPC 8.
