Week 6: Humans vs Zombies
Sup guys,
Firstly, congratulations to Sean Hammond, who was elected our second
Console Officer last week. Woo.
Our craziest and spookiest week of the year has arrived, along with a
particularly contagious zombie virus. We have events running all week to
keep you on your toes, so I'll try to keep it brief, but honestly it's
going to be an absolute blast!
Humans vs Zombies
Humans vs Zombies begins at 12pm tomorrow (Monday), so you need to sign up
and collect your band before then. Sign up here <www.games.dcu.ie/hvz> and
keep updated by RSVP-ing to the event here
<https://www.facebook.com/events/288110335029405/>. At 12pm the Original
Zombies will be released, and they'll be anonymous for an hour, or until
they infect 5 humans. From that point on, have your Nerf guns at the ready
and be prepared to stun or run! Safety is super important during events
like these, so please check out the website for more information on the
rules and play zones. Feel free to send an email/facebook message if you're
unsure about anything, too.
Night Events
As well as the usual madness of Humans vs Zombies, we'll be holding special
night events on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm. We'll meet at The
Street in the Henry Grattan, and there'll be 30 minutes of immunity before
and after the events (meaning zombies can't infect any humans), so you can
arrive protected. Each mission will be in a different style, and affects
the overall outcome of the game. More information will be revealed
throughout the week, so keep an eye out and be ready for anything.
Face Painting
Postgrad Society and Clay Target Shooting Club will be face painting for
human warriors in The Street tomorrow from 5pm, and they'll also be
providing some rolled up socks for your protection.
Circus Society and Fotosoc will be doing zombie face painting and a spooky
photo booth in the minor hall of the Sports Centre from 2pm until 5pm on
Wednesday too, a great chance to get some funky, memorable pictures.
St Pats Campus
Brainz-themed Mindfulness Day will be taking place in Java on St Pats
Campus from 10am until 2pm, hosted by the Psychology Society. Also on St
Pats Campus, Harry Potter Society will be holding a zombie-themed Potions
Night. It'll begin at 6:30pm in E301 and be followed by a trip to Everleigh.
Trad & Console Gaming
Console Gaming will be held from 2pm until 5pm in XG01, and I'm sure it'll
run smoother than ever with our 2 Console Officers. This week we'll be
having a Nidhogg 2 tournament, and there'll be a €20 GameStop voucher for
the winner. If you haven't played Nidhogg or Nidhogg 2 before, it's super
easy to pick up, and experience isn't really much of a benefit. Sign ups
begin at 2pm, and there's a €2 entry fee. We'll have all the usual games
there too.
Trad Gaming will be taking place on Monday 6-10pm, and Wednesday 5-10pm in
XG01. Come along and try out the spookiest games we have, while staying
safe from the zombies.
Demonware Talk
There'll be a Demonware talk in L101 at 5pm on Monday. Demonware provides
online services for Activision games, including Call of Duty. Engineers at
Demonware will talk about working in the gaming industry and challenges
associated with providing online services for one of the worlds largest
entertainment franchises.
I hope to see you all running around with orange head/arm bands throughout
the week. Honestly, HvZ was the most fun I had all last year so if you
haven't signed up yet, you really should.

Week 5: oops
Hey guys!
*please ignore if you've already received an email this week*
As it turns out, I'm terrible at being a secretary because a lot of you
weren't really on the mailing list until now. Pls forgive me. So, for those
of you who are out of the loop, here's what's going on tomorrow:
Raffle & Info night: Thanks to the wonderful societies we've partnered
with, we have over €260 worth of goods to raffle off in anticipation for
HvZ. We have some Nerf guns and darts, and maybe a board game or two. This
will be happening in C124 at 6pm, followed by some information about HvZ
featuring the Airsoft Society.
Speed dating: Harry Potter society are hosting Magical Speed Dating in XG01
from 6:30pm. You can go there straight after the raffle, maybe impress a
few people with your big guns and make a few friends.
Don't forget to sign up to HvZ here <http://www.games.dcu.ie/hvz/> (and
don't forget to join the game once you sign up), and RSVP to the event on
Facebook here <https://www.facebook.com/events/288110335029405/?ti=as>.
We'll be in the Henry Grattan building (the street) between 12pm and 2pm
tomorrow and Friday, so come along and collect your identifying armbands,
and feel free to sign up on the spot too.

Week 5: Incoming Zombie Apocalypse!
Hey guys,
I hope everybody enjoyed their day off at the hands of Ophelia. The storm
may not have been the end of the world, but the zombie threat might. So
this week we'll be beginning preparations for Humans vs Zombies, to ensure
the highest survival rates possible.
*Humans vs Zombies*
The zombies are coming! Our zombie-themed chase game, Humans vs Zombies,
takes place next week - all week. Humans must fend off the zombies with
Nerf guns, rolled-up socks, or their wit. It was shortlisted for Best Event
at the Clubs and Socs Awards last year, and this year we're partnering with
a bunch of other societies (Airsoft, Harry Potter, Psychology, Postgrad,
Redbrick, Circus) to make it better than ever.
Sign up by clicking here <https://www.games.dcu.ie/hvz> before Monday and
join the event on Faceboook
<https://www.facebook.com/events/288110335029405??ti=ia> too. We'll also
have a stand in the Henry Grattan building from 12pm until 2pm on Thursday
and Friday if you want to come by and ask some questions, or sign up then.
*Wednesday*
We'll be in XG01 for all the following events:
Console Gaming: We'll be holding the second part of our FIFA 18 tournament
from 2-5pm. We won't be taking new sign ups, but if you made it through the
first round last week, come along and defend your honour. The winner will
be awarded with a €20 GameStop voucher, and bragging rights probably.
Console gaming will take place throughout as always.
EGM: Finally, we'll be electing our Console Officer no. 2, at 5pm. If you
want to run for the position, or have your say in who we should trust with
our beloved consoles and our beloved Eamon, come along.
Zombiology: DCU Psychology Society are hosting our first HvZ themed event -
Zombiology. They'll be giving us some insight into the minds of zombies,
and how we defenceless humans can evade them. Maybe we'll learn that, while
they may not be human, they're still people too. Maybe. This will take
place from 6pm, and it could be the key to your survival next week.
Trad Gaming: Trad Gaming will take place as normal following the
Zombiology, with maybe a spooky game or two.
*Thursday*
Raffle & Info night: Thanks to the wonderful societies we've partnered
with, we have over €260 worth of goods to raffle off in anticipation for
HvZ. We have some Nerf guns and darts, and maybe a board game or two. This
will be happening in C124 at 6pm, followed by some information about HvZ

from 6:30pm. You can go there straight after the raffle, maybe impress a
few people with your big guns and make a few friends.
Hopefully we'll be seeing you throughout the next few days as you hone your
survival skills and prepare for a week of hunting zombies, or eating brains
depending on where your allegiance lies.

Week 4: Love Letter, FIFA, and probably pizza
Sup guys,
Thanks all for attending the EGM, and electing our new PRO, Martin Nolan
(he's never leaving us), and our new First Year Rep, Connell Kelly. The
amendment to the constitution passed, so next Wednesday (week 5) we'll be
voting our second Console Officer in. I hope everybody who came to The
Clockwork Door last week had a great time, and those who missed it should
come next time! Just a word of warning that last Wednesday a member was
attacked on their way home from trad, so don't walk alone if at all
possible.
Other than that, we have a fun week ahead so I'll get to that.
- Trad Gaming
- Console Gaming
- Laptop Gaming
Trad Gaming
Trad Gaming will take place as usual, 6-10pm on Monday and 5-10pm on
Wednesday in room XG01. This week we'll be having our first trad tournament
of the year, and the game of choice is Love Letter. Sign ups begin at 6pm
on Monday, with a €2 entry fee and a €20 Gamers World voucher for the
winner. Love Letter is a simple game so if you haven't made it to (m)any
trad sessions don't worry, you'll pick it up in no time. The game is about
fighting to gain the affection of the princess, and quashing all potential
rivals.
Disclaimer: Prize does not include princess.
Don't forget that we also provide room booking for anybody who'd like to
play RPGs in DCU, just let us know a day or two in advance. Also feel free
to ask about any RPGs and resources we already have.
Console Gaming
This week we'll be having our FIFA 18 tournament! If you like playing
sports without any of the effort, you should come along and play in XG01.
Sign ups will be taken from 2pm, with a €2 entry free and a €20 GameStop
voucher up for grabs. Console gaming will take place as usual in the same
room from 2pm until 5pm.
Laptop Gaming
Apparently we're really good at having technical difficulties. So for the
time being, we'll be hosting Laptop Gaming in room CG02 from 5-9pm on
Thursday. And don't forget to join the GamesSoc discord, which you'll find
at the bottom.
Thanks for reading, I hope you all have a wonderful week.

Wednesday. We promise our usual fun and shenanigans, and a great chance to
meet some people and make some friends.
Console Gaming
Console Gaming will take place in XG01 from 2-5pm this week. We'll have our
brand new SNES mini there to try out, as well as the regular consoles and
games.
Don't forget to give us some attention on the social media sites we're a
part of, links down below. See you guys throughout the week!
