- - PC Gaming: Clyde Night - -
While PC Gaming in the labs might not be here for a little bit we do have
something else to offer!
Clyde Night is when we as a society jump onto our Teamspeak server
[clyde.games.dcu.ie] to play some pc games together such as Team Fortress
2, Trouble in Terrorist Town or any other game people want to play
together!
We are aiming to get this going around 7pm-8pm this Tuesday however keep
an eye out here and on our facebook page (link below) for the exact time
and further details!
If you have never heard or used Teamspeak before it's a VoIP program
(Voice over Internet Protocol, think similar to Skype for example but only
audio with different channels or rooms) where we can all chat to each
other while we play games!
Download the client here: https://www.teamspeak.com/downloads and install it.
When you have it loaded up (if a setup wizard pops up go through it to set
up your mic and such, you can always change it later in options or run it
again in the settings tab) and click on the Bookmarks tab and click on
Manage Bookmarks.
Click on Add Bookmark and change the following boxes to this:
Label: DCU Gamessoc
Address: clyde.games.dcu.ie
Nickname: Whatever you call yourself and what people will see you as.
Click OK and then go back to Bookmarks tab and click on the bookmark you
just made e.g. DCU Gamessoc and boom you are on our Teamspeak server in
the lobby channel.
>From here you can double click to change channel, click the buttons above
to mute your mic and/or speaker.
This should be enough to get you started and if you have any questions
feel free to ask or email us!
- - Humans vs Zombies - -
Our annual HvZ event is returning this year during week 4 so ready your
NERF guns and rolled up socks, you have some time to prepare!
If you are unfamiliar with what exactly Humans vs Zombies is check out
this link for more info! https://humansvszombies.org/
For those of you who don't have a NERF gun we will also be having a raffle
so that you lucky survivors can win yourself your own NERF gun to fight
off the hordes with! We are planning to have it this Thursday at around
5pm however keep an eye here for more information on when we will be
having it!
- - Gamessoc EGM and Freshers Ball - -

Hey all,
This is just a quick reminder about the LAN this Friday.
Final price has been decided as 30! So just an extra 10 for all of you
who have paid your deposits already.
It starts this Friday at 6pm, and finishes up on Sunday at 6pm,
but you can come along pretty much whenever.
You'll need to remember to bring the following:
-Whatever you're playing games on (PC/Console)
-A monitor/TV
-An extension cable (Please don't forget one of these)
-An Ethernet cable (Again, don't forget this)
-Money to pay for the LAN (10 if you have paid your deposit, 30
if you haven't)
-Food, drinks, more money for more food, etc.
-Sleeping equipment (You know yourself, sleeping bags, duvets, blankets,
pillows etc.) if you feel like you're gonna want a nap or two throughout
the 48 hours.
We'll be in the Venue this weekend. For those of you who don't know where
it is, just go into DCU through the Ballymun Road entrance and keep going
until you get to the roundabout, and it's in the building to the left (The
Hub, where you can see the beer garden for the NuBar). We'll put signs up,
or something and you can view the map at this link:
http://games.dcu.ie/48LAN2015/Map.png
Now, onto tournaments.
We'll be having eight tournaments this year. Five on PC, three on
consoles. We will also be running our King Of Gamessoc event over the 48
hours so there'll be a few mini-games/challenges for that!
The PC tournaments are:
(1 v 1) League of Legends
Warsow
Worms Armageddon
Age Of Mythology
CS:S 5-a-side (de_dust2)
The Console tournaments are:
Super Smash Wii U
Mario Kart 8
Mortal Kombat X
For those of you who missed the announcements of prize sponsorship, we
have a G303 Daedalus Gaming Mouse for the 1st place winners of the League
Of Legends, Warsow and Age Of Mythology Tournaments. All other prizes will
be displayed as you arrive on Friday. Want a closer look at the specs of
these awesome mice? Check out this link!
http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/product/gaming-mouse-g303
A VERY ROUGH timetable for the tournaments can be seen here:
http://games.dcu.ie/48LAN2015/Timetable%20for%20Tourneys.pdf
This is just a rough estimate of when we plan to run the tourneys, but
we'll be playing it by ear on the day, of what suits people best, taking
into account if any tourneys are delayed or run longer than estimated so
trust me, these times are not set in stone.
If you don't own copies of the games, don't worry, we can sort that out.
Also, we will be having a raffle for this super awesome G910 Orion Spark
Mechanical Gaming Keyboard!! Click the link! (Seriously, check this out!)
http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/product/rgb-gaming-keyboard-g910
You can buy a ticket for 50c or a line (five tickets) for 2.
We'll also have a few Cineworld Passes and Extravision Vouchers going as
spot prizes too!
We'll have a place set up for peeps to nap, so don't forget your sleeping
stuff and the building of forts is more than welcome. Encouraged even.
When you arrive come find any member of the committee (if you don't know
who we are, don't worry! Just ask around, we don't bite, promise) and
they'll send you in the right direction to pay in and get you settled.
We'll be keeping an eye out for everyone anyway!
Haven't paid your deposit or emailed in? Have a few friends who are still
interested but haven't signed up? Don't worry! Just arrive on the day and
we'll get you all signed in.
Any questions or queries, feel free to reply to this email. See you this
weekend!
Regards,
Hazel Egan
Trips & Events Officer
DCU Games Society
