Hey all, We're holding our first Summer 24 hour BYOPC (bring you own PC) LAN in 2 weeks time! That's Saturday the 7th of August from 12pm until Sunday the 8th at 12pm. To sign up hit the link below and register. http://www.byopc.dcu.ie/ The entry fee is €10 so make sure to bring that and your computer. Just like our previous LANs, the event will be held in The Helix in The Space. The entrance is via the side door, between the Henry Gratten building and the Helix. Here's a map that Seamus did last year in case you don't know where. http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/~train/campus.gif We'll be holding 3 tournaments: an RTS, a 1v1 FPS and a team FPS. We're leaving the decision up to you guys again. Go to the forums and vote for your favourite game and the winning games will be the tournaments played on the day. Oh hello there. Week 12 already! The year has flown by. I hope assignments are going well and are almost finished, because we are finishing the semester off with a bang. -EGM -Worms Tournament -Mario Kart Wii Tournament -EGM- This Thursday we're holding an EGM to elect two new members to next years committee. The positions available are: -Trips & Events officer -Traditional Gaming officer If you would like to run for either of these positions, just show up on the day and put your name forward for nomination. There will also be a vote on the proposed constitutional change to rename 'Traditional Gaming' to 'Traditional & Tabletop Gaming' -Mario Kart Wii Tournament- On Wednesday there will be a Mario Kart wii tournament from 2:30pm in the Old Bar. Entry will be €2 and a fabulous prize for the winner! -Worms Tournament- Then on Thursday we are holding a free for all worms tournament! Entry will be €2 and signups will take place from 6.30pm. A wonderful prize for the overall winner! Well, that's it for the year folks. Oh hi, Week 11 already! Hopefully assignments or projects don't have you all too swamped this week - at least not enough to keep you from coming to our events! Take a break from that stressful studying and come relax with some games. -Forza Tournament -Buying Games -Forza Tournament- This Wednesday we are holding a Forza Motorsport tournament during Console Gaming from 2pm. Entry will be €2 and there will be great prizes up for grabs! -Buying Games- As the end of the year approaches, a good chunk of our funding is still going unspent. Hello there, Despite popular demand, I will not be lacing this or any other emails with pretty colours or exotic fonts, sorry. Anyway! We had a wonderful AGM last Wednesday and for those of you who weren't there here are the results: Chairperson - Daniel Jack Secretary - Oisín Kelly Treasurer - Chris Boyle PRO - Claire Whitehead Console Events - David Kernan PC Events - Chris Walsh Traditional Gaming Officer - David McHugh Trips and Events Officer - Thomas Butler Webmaster - Thomas Cashman Congratulations to all of you and commiserations to those of you who lost, all the contested position votes were close! -Karaoke -Dawn of War -Q-Con -Karaoke- Tomorrow (Monday) we're heading out to a karaoke bar for food followed by some singing (or attempted singing). We will be meeting as a group in DCU at 6:15pm before heading into town. The venue itself is called Bonga and is on Capel street for those of you who just want to meet us there. Food is €11.40 per person for all you can eat and the price of the booth is split dependong on how many people show up, so the more the merrier! -Dawn of War- This Thursday we are holding a Dawn of War tournament at Lab Gaming. Sign ups will take place from 6:30pm and entry will be €2 per person in a 1v1 deathmatch style tournament. For those of you who don't know, Lab Gaming is held in C204. -Q-Con- We are still taking signups for Q-Con in June, so if you want to join our growing group of signees, just send us an email to games(a)redbrick.dcu.ie if you want your entry fee refunded and discounted travel expenses. [Announce-gamesoc] LAN tomorrow, AGM, Pub Quiz, Karaoke, Street Fighter 4 and Q-Con!

Hellos, The announce email is going out early this week as the LAN is on tomorrow (yay!), you should all go. -LAN -AGM -Pub Quiz -Street Fighter 4 -Karaoke -Q-Con -LAN- The BYOPC LAN is tomorrow! We are starting from 12pm in the Helix, to get in, you will need to go around to the side door (the one facing the Henry Grattan) and go in through there. Here: http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/~train/campus.gif There will be plenty of tournaments throughout the 24 hours, including some EA sponsored console ones, so if you can make it you should definitely come along. Hope to see you there! -AGM- Our AGM is also this week on Wednesday from 7:30pm in CG19 (yes, during Traditional Gaming). We have a few amendments to our constitution which we want to put forward as well as voting for who you think should run the society next year (or, y'know, running for those positions)! There will also be free pizza. -Pub Quiz- This Tuesday we are holding a Pub Quiz with Airsoft in the Old Bar from 6:30. Entry will be €3 per person with a maximum team size of 4. There are plenty of great prizes up for grabs, such as external harddrives, lego and HMV vouchers. -Street Fighter 4- This Wednesday we are holding a Street Fighter 4 tournament during Console Gaming. Entry will be €2 with wonderful prizes up for grabs! Regular console gaming will be held as usual for those of you who do not want to take part in the tournament. -Karaoke- On Monday the 12th, GamesSoc are going karaoke-ing (I am not sure if this is a word). The trip will consist of food in the form of an all you can eat buffet from 7:30-9:30 followed by 2 hours of karaoke (the food bit is optional, you can come straight for the singing at 9:30 if you want to). The venue will be Bonga on Capel street. -Q-Con- Registration for Q-Con has opened up, so for those of you who wish to go, send us an email and we can fund part of your expenses for going! Hello there, Hope you all had a good week last week. Here's what's up and coming in the next week or so: -AGM -LAN -Halo 3 Tournament -Clyde -AGM- It is almost that time of year again to re-elect a brand new committee to run this wonderful society next year! The AGM will be held on Wednesday the 7th at 7:30pm in CG19. We encourage everyone who can make it to attend, as every vote counts. There will also be free pizza. Yay. With the AGM comes a few changes to our constitution members have brought up which need to be voted on: Amend the Trips & Events Officer's duties to include: ii) To organise events which aren't included as regular events And: To rename "Traditional Gaming" to "Tabletop Gaming" See the current constitution here: http://games.dcu.ie/about/constitution.php -LAN- Another remind that the LAN will happening soon (the 3rd and 4th of April) in the Helix, so be sure to clear that weekend if you haven't already for 24 hours of fun(*). -Halo 3 Tournament- This Wednesday we are holding a Halo 3 team tournament in the Old Bar from 2:30pm. Entry will be €2 per person, with prizes for the winning team. Teams consist of 4 members, but don't worry if you don't have a team already, come along and we'll set you up with someone. -Clyde- We have ordered a brand new gaming server, Cylde. Hello there, A shorter than usual week this week, with St. Patrick's day this Wednesday, as a result Console & Traditional Gaming will not be held. Try to carry on through the overwhelming sadness you must now be feeling to: -Halo Legends Screening -Unreal Tournament Tournament [sic] -Halo Legends Screening- This Tuesday we are holding a Halo Legends screening in CG04 with AMS. The start time is 7pm and refreshments will be provided! -Unreal Tournament Tournament- We are also holding an Unreal Tournament 2004 1v1 deathmatch tournament at Lab Gaming. The tournament itself will start at around 6:30pm, so show up early to sign up. A copy of Bad Company 2 for the lucky winner!
