Hey everyone, just a quick reminder to everyone to go out and vote tomorrow.
All your votes count and if you were to help Aisling Fitzgerald become the
new DCU Equality officer we would be very appreciative. She is a friend of
Games Soc's and she is very suited to the job and we know she will be very
dedicated to the position.
So just make sure to use your vote tomorrow and make the right decision.
Thanks,
DCU Games Society.

Hello everyone,
First off, welcome to Games Soc and thanks for signing up on the Clubs
& Societies days, your money has been well spent!
This is just an introductory mail to tell you what's going on this week.
-C&S days
-Weekly events
-Game programming
-Brawl tournament
-Intervarsity Gaming League
-C&S days-
Both Clubs & Societies days were really successful this year, with Games
Soc breaking it's membership record for fifth consecutive year with a
grand total of 211 members. So once again, a big thanks to everyone who
came out to support us and sign up.
Also congratulation to Ryan McCloskey, the winner of the Sega Megadrive
raffle - the lucky number was 79.
-Weekly events-
Now for the reason you all joined Games Soc in the first place: the
gaming.
Traditional gaming will be on every Monday and Wednesday evening from
6pm in the Henry Gratten in CG20 so be sure to come along and get your
fill of board games, card games, RPGs, war games and other non
electronic games.
Console gaming starts off every Wednesday from 2pm. Unfortunately as of
yet we still don't have a definite room set in stone. Fear not however
as we shall most likely be set up somewhere visible in the Hub. Just
follow the sound of Rock Band being played and you'll find us.
Last but not least, lab gaming makes its triumphant return in C204 in
the Henry Grattan from 6pm on Thursdays. So if PC gaming is more your
thing, come along and take part in games ranging from Counter Strike: Source,
Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead to the likes of Dawn of War, Company of Heroes
and Starcraft.
-Game Programming-
For those of you who are interested in creating your own games, we are
now holding programming tutorials every Tuesday from 5-6pm in L101
(that's the computing building). Don't worry if you're not a computing
student, we have guest login details for anyone who wants to
participate. So be sure to come along and check it out.
-Brawl tournament-
Our first tournament of the year is happening in week 4 (thats Wednesday
the 21st) with a free for all beat-em-up Super Smash Brothers Brawl
tournament. Entry will only be €2 on the day, so be sure to join in for
the chance to win snazzy prizes!
-Intervarsity Gaming League-
This year we are participating in an intervarsity gaming league with
several other colleges from around Dublin in a variety of gaming
tournaments. So if you're interested in any way and would like to be
part of the league or just want to see the list of games being played
just send us a reply.
That's about it for this week. Be sure and sign up on our forums too at
http://games.dcu.ie/forums and discuss all your favourite games or just
want to talk about anything with your fellow Games Society members.
If you have any friends who haven't yet signed up, convince them to come
along to an event where a committee member can take their details and
have them registered in no time.
You can also e-mail us at games(a)redbrick.dcu.ie if you have any
questions or suggestions at all.
Thanks,
Seamus

Hello people,
Just a quick welcome back email to let everyone know what's coming up for GamesSoc in the next few weeks.
-Orientation Week
-Clubs And Socs Days.
-Traditional/Console/Lab Gaming.
-Blinky
Orientation Week:
Last week GamesSoc brought out a stand for Orientation Week to
encourage new prospective members. A big thanks to everyone who came along and
anyone who lent us a hand. Rock Band Beatles and Halo ODST were especially popular.
Clubs And Socs Days:
Next Week will have GamesSoc coming out for the biggest promotional days
of the year, Clubs And Socs Days which will be Wednesday the 7th and Thursday
the 8th of October. So everyone make sure to get to our stand and register
yourself for next year. Guaranteed to be lots of fun so everyone is
welcome to join in and there shall be free sweets and consoles set up!
Keep an eye out for Pacman and Blinky too.
Traditional/Console/Lab Gaming:
As I'm sure a few of you are aware, the Mezzanine has been moved from
its location in the canteen to the seminar room. This means that we are
temporarily homeless with regards to somewhere to hold events.
No need to fret however! Traditional gaming will still be going strong
in the Henry Gratten building for the time being in CG19 (Mondays) and
CG20 (Wednesdays). As for console gaming, we do not yet have a definate room
booking yet, but we will by the end of next week - so keep an eye out
for an update email sometime in the near future. Lab gaming will also be
starting back in week 3, in the same place as usual - C204 in the Henry
Gratten building.
Blinky:
You can also come join us online on our game server, Blinky. We hold
regluar gaming sessions in the evenings on it, playing L4D, CSS and TF2.
You can find out more by going to our dedicated blinky forum here:
http://games.dcu.ie/forums/index.php?board=12.0
Hope to see you around in the next few days and weeks. As always don't
hesitate to come to us with any questions or queries you might have. And
as always you are more than welcome to bring your own games to Console
Gaming or request anything you would like to see played.
Thanks,
Seamus
