Hey all, This is just a run through of all the things that i wanted to bring up at tonights commitee meeting, but as i wont be there, i've decided to send them all in this mail. 1. Socs Ball tickets: We have currently sold 41 of our 50 tickets. We need to sell the remaining 9, or drama looses €405!!!!! So if you know of anybody who wants one, tell them to get in contact with me. Also, of the 41 tickets sold, only 28 have actually been paid for. I will be sending out a mail to the membership about this basically stating that people will have until the end of next week to cough up, or we will resell their ticket. I will also state time, places etc that i will collect the money. If people give any of you the money, that's no problem, as long as ya tell me so that i can change the list accordingly. 2. Broadway: Right, first off a whooping 21 people have not paid their second €150. I accept that its reading week, so ideally, i want everybody to have paid the second installment by the end of next week, 11 nov, with the final payment on friday 9 dec. Secondly, a wee problem with the flights has occured. As we booked the tickets on a student credit card, AIB would only allow a max spend of €3000 per day, for security reasons. Anything greater than this requires an authorisation code. I have sorted this, so their shouldnt be any more trouble, but i will keep you up to date with the situation. Also, bob could you forward me all expenses for the trip, ie cost of shows, accomadation etc, as well as the funding the spc has granted us for the trip. 3. The Grant app. .First of the grant app, has for the most part been accepted, i will send a detailed email later of all allocations. However, we will need to get quotes for any set or spotlights that we decide to buy. Eoghan perhaps you could look into this as i don't know much about lighting or equipment in general. Also we have been granted €100 and €80 to buy a keyboard and cd player respectively. I will look into purchasing these in the next week or so, unless there are any objections, suggestions etc. 4. A few apologies. Firstly to steve for not being at panto rehersals today, to anybody's text message that i have ignored, and to the committee in general for not being there tonight 5. Mmm, cant remember what else i wanted to say. Oh well, oh Charlie, could you put the picture of me in drag from the RH on the committee webpage. Thinks thats it. Your honourable money swindler,

Hey everyone, Hope ye're all recovered from Thursday (Steve, ya seriously missed out!) Anyway, I just wanted to direct everybody's attention to the forums on the life.dcu.ie. There's one especially for Drama Soc and I think it'd be cool if we got people to post to it pretty regularly and let us know what they think is good, bad or whatever about Drama this year. I know we have that dinky little message board on the web-site but NOBODY uses that except for weird people spamming about poker websites. Also, I don't think we can even moderate that message board and the life.dcu.ie. The workshop will be held in Dublin from the 7th - 11th November, from 10am - 6pm daily. This is a free course, and basic materials will be supplied. In this workshop, lead by internationally acclaimed theatre consultant and designer Jean-Guy Lecat, participants will explore the nature and qualities of the performance space. In theatre, "that which favours concentration is right, that which hinders it is not" (Peter Brook). Theatrical space must be a source of energy, whilst acting as a catalyst and vehicle for the imagination. How does modern theatrical practice translate into physical space? This workshop seeks to investigate: � What dimensions should be given to this imaginative space? � How can we find a form for an ideal theatrical arena in the existing spaces today? � What form of space can best encourage a beneficial relationship with the actors and facilitate an enjoyable and educational theatrical experience for the audience? � How can the technical risks - which are a necessary part of the creative process - be taken without jeopardising the production? � Should those who occupy and utilise the space understand and develop their own space? In this context of continual movement, what is the role of the architect? The theme text for this workshop will be Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus as directed for Siren Productions by Selina Cartmell, who will be discussing the text as part of the workshop. There will also be field trips to various Dublin theatres to view working theatre spaces. Over the course of the 5 days, participants will be split into small mixed groups. Each group will transform a given space with paper (they may also add their own materials, such as small pieces of wood, paintings, photos, projections or videos) or to create a model box based on their experiments. There are 20 places available on this course. This is a free workshop, and basic materials will be provided (participants may supply their own additional materials.) Jean-Guy Lecat has been technical director and space designer for Peter Brook for over 35 years. As a theatre consultant, working closely with architects, he has been responsible for the transformation and creation of many theatrical spaces throughout the world, including; The Cloister of Carmes, the Boulbon's and Les Taillades Quarry in Avignon; Th��tre d'Orsay in Paris; BAM Majestic Harvey, La MaMa Theatre and Beaumont Theatre Lincoln Centre in New York; The Tram (tramway) in Glasgow; Odeon Theatre in Pompeii, Anfiteatro Romano in Calgary-Sardinia; King Palace in Rabat Morocco; The National Theatre in Strasbourg and over 200 spaces for Peter Brook. His current projects include, The Unicorn Theatre and The New Vic in London, a project in New York with architects Frank O'Gehry and Hugh Hardy and the transformation of spaces in Madrid, Lisbon and Moscow. Presented by Siren Productions in association with the Arts Council ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Pan Pan workshops Pan Pan are running two short courses in the PRACTICALITIES OF LIGHTING AND SET DESIGN this November led by Aed�n Cosgrove (Lighting) and Andrew Clancy (Set). Both designers have worked extensively in their fields, and are both also highly involved in the practical production of the work, and in the subsequent touring of productions. Each course will focus on the practicalities of translating a designer's initial ideas into a satisfactory reality, while working successfully with the director, other designers and crew. The lighting course will also give an introduction to drafting programs such as Max Lux Pro and Softplot 3D, and the set course will give the participants the opportunity to conceive and/or develop a design during the week. This workshop is suitable for people with some previous experience or interest in designing for theatre, students, or early professionals. Lighting: 14th - 18th November, 11am-4pm. As part of its Feis Ceol week long celebration of all things Irish, O'Neill's will now transport a slice of the festival atmosphere back into its pubs in the UK. This year Livingston, the winner of O'Neill's recent national Battle of the Bands competition, performed in The Ambassador Theatre at the Fringe's Uncut event as part of their prize. The five piece band will now tour O'Neill's during Feis Ceol . Livingston owe their unique and edgy sound to their global origins, with members hailing from as far apart as South Africa, Italy and Germany. Their music resonates influences from rock, indie and world music and has earned praise from industry experts from NME, Q and Fender. Alongside Livingston, two other critically acclaimed acts from Ireland will be performing 'fresh from the fringe' at selected O'Neill's - Jaded Sun and Kudos. Jaded Sun are a Dublin based guitar band who have been stamping their own unique brand of rock'n'roll on the Irish music scene since forming in early 2002. As well as reaching number one in the CPU Records Artists' chart, their EP has also received critical acclaim, being play-listed across Ireland and picking up rave reviews from the Irish music press. Four-piece Dublin based band, Kudos, formed ten years ago and now boast a strong history of radio airplay and live gigs across Ireland. Their music combines delicately layered melodies with full on rock energy, producing a sound that whilst forceful, possesses the kind of popular accessibility rarely found in the often uncompromising sound of young bands. Committee... I want to book this theatre trip to see Aladdin the Pantomime in The Gaiety Theatre for the Wed 14th of December? Maybe like a 'DCU Drama Christmas day out?' The lady says it'll be €22 each, but a 10% discount if we get more than 20. Also, i have yet to sweet talk her so maybe a bit cheaper. Just does anyone think we should go to it in January instead or what, ya know with christmas shopping and all that shite? (Note- If ya wanna buy me something- i look great in black... and lace... so, use your imagination...)
