...well, maybe more than a few. Better sit down, and perhaps grab a cuppa. You're gonna be reading for a while. And please read all the way to the end - Monday's meeting was quite truncated and the only meeting we've had where the full committee was present thus far was the EGM, which doesn't really count. And we have a lotta shit to deal with. First things first: ROCKY HORROR: As of this moment, we have 96 tickets sold, and under Shane's estimates, another 24 covers our costs for the show. Yayness! Conor Farrell has asked me to reserve 5 for him for tomorrow, and many people have told me "ah, sure I'll get one off you tomorrow," the usual shite. For various reasons, the prop shopping was NOT done today, but Jay assures me that he has a handle on it, and will get it done tomorrow. We have about 30 working water pistols - do we need to buy more?? Lemme know what you all think. Soon, so that we can pass the word along to Jay. He will cover what needs to be covered out of his own pocket, and I've told him to keep receipts. Ashley Ridiculousfuckinglongsurname is going with him. Jay is also sorting out the screen and projector for about 5.30 ish, and ASSURES me that he knows exactly how to set it up for the show. The union have asked me if they can use it when we are done, to show horror movies. Given that we probably won't be finished before 11.30, I reckon they'll squeeze in one movie and I can't see it being a problem. I'll be out in the HUB at 10am to sell tickets, sorry about today. I was off in a bloody lecture before I realised that the tickets and money box were locked into my room. Ooops. Even though we didn't start selling until 2pm today, we still sold about 30 tickets. We get in there all day tomorrow and we could flog off our entire allotment. Result! Mind you, I can't stay at the desk all day, so will be looking for help :) There's lots of toilet paper, rice and a big box of slutty costumes in the equipment room. We seperated them from the rest when we tidied the room. We'll need all hands on deck from about 5.30 - 6ish tomorrow. There's a lot of prep work to be done for the RHPS, especially loading the goodie bags. I've asked Jay to have a look for lots of cheap popcorn for tomorrow night too. Eoghan has sorted out a projector and screen for the script, we can keep them overnight, but I would reccommend that we NOT leave them in the Venue. My gaff will do nicely. We need two laptops - we can show the movie on mine, but need another for the script-projector combo. As for rehearsals, here's the deal. About 10 people turned up to Monday night's screening, and a grand total of zero to this afternoon's. But that's fine. It'll be more of a case of the crowd coming in and having a complete laugh than doing an organised RHPS thing. But what the hell. I'm thinking if we sort of lead the way, they'll get the idea, especially with the abuse-hurling... Because it's the Halloween Ball, more people will be wandering in and out of the Venue throughout the night, as opposed to being there specifically for the RHPS. Meh. In terms of needing a ticket, that's a bit of a tricky issue. As of now we have plenty of tickets to spare (to do with as we wish etc), so I'm thinking that we should just give a freebie to committee members (so we all officially have a ticket to the ball) and perhaps Jay too, seeing as he has done so much in John's absence. OTHER STUFF: BROADWAY: Carol Cohen at bestofbroadway.com <http://bestofbroadway.com> has emailed me to say that the Spamalot tix are waiting for us at the box office. She has yet to receive the other two payments though, and is getting a bit impatient. When were they mailed? I figured they would take 5 days, which means if they were mailed last Wednesday, she should have got them today, or tomorrow at the latest. I've been in contact with the Hostel and they have booked 3 x 10 bed dorms for us - it's the only way we are guaranteed not to have to share with complete strangers, but it does mean that there will be 9 girls and 1 bloke in one of the rooms. Who's the lucky fella? Total cost: $3,840, which is going on MY credit card :( SOCS BALL TIX: Shane, you the man on this issue. Charlie asked me to ask you if you had a ticket for him. I don't know if you had already factored in the committee when doing your maths or what, so let us know. Pleeeease! Cheers. BLOODY MUSICAL: I spoke briefly with Lennox today, and she said that the music that they receieved for one version of Alice in Wonderland was bollocks. The music for the other version had to come from the States or something, it was complicated and stuff. It's looking increasingly like Guys and Dolls, which would not necessarily be a bad thing - it's a known show with popular songs. I know that another group are going to be doing it around the same time. Which leaves us with two issues: Are they going to wipe the floor with us on this (and really, do we care?), AND will we even get the rights? DANIEL BEVAN: Wants to meet me re: production team for his show. Also wants to do it in first semester, expects me to pull the Helix outta my ass. I'm trying to convince him to use the Interfaith, but he still needs a production team. Joe M, can I get you to email the production mailing list and see who's interested? DEE JONES: Held auditions on Tuesday for her play "My Mother Said I Never Should" and cast herself and one other girl, leaving two empty spots. She wants more auditions next Tuesday and has already booked a room. I like this girl, she gets off her ass and does things. The show will be in semester 2, at some bloody stage. Attention Stormtroopers!! There is now an addition to the previous mission... ...You should all be aware of the Clubs and Societies office (upstairs in the Hub). Therein, you will find a stack of posters on top of the wooden "cubby-hole" unit, to the left of the photocopier (just ask if you're lost). These are advertising "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" - what we need you to do is to take them and put them on display. The next part is important, so listen up: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: There are certain RULES you need to follow in order to survive a "postering"!!: Be careful, or WE WILL GET FINED!!!!!! DO NOT put posters on WALLS!! DO NOT put posters on GLASS!! Basically, don't put them on the actual Building, Just... ...NOTICE BOARDS!! These are everywhere, in every building in the college - so fill em up!! Priorities are in this order: The Hub (don't put all of them here, but it's important to have a few) The Henry Grattan Building The Rest - every other building!! GorBleedinBlimeyGuvnor! There's just sooo much stuff going on this week in DCU Drama, it's all a little overwhelming. But we persevere, because WE ARE DRAMA, DAMMIT! Righty Ho, first off, Drama have managed to get their grubby little hands on an undisclosed number of tickets for the Socs Ball, the premier night out of the college year. We will offer said tickets to our members BEFORE they go on sale to the general public at exactly the same price. We only have a few, so it's first come, first served! Sorry... The Socs Ball is probably the most in-demand ticket of the year (with the exception of DCU Drama's annual musical), and last year tickets went on sale at 10am and sold out at 10.25. And if you hadn't been queuing since 8.30, you were shit outta luck. It's all happening at the Burlington Hotel on the 29th of November, and tickets are a bargain bin 45 euro. Email your name and phone number to dcudrama(a)gmail.com and we will provide tickets for you in the order in which we receive the emails. It's the fairest way :) THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW is upon us again! This year, we are holding it in association with the SU Halloween Ball on Thursday night the 27th (this Thursday!). It's a great opportunity to put on women's clothes (if you're a guy) or dress really slutty (if you're a girl, a guy, or other). We then get to sit in the Venue, watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show, scream, yell abuse, throw stuff, sing and dance. It's what Drama is all about, and has become an annual favourite of our members. Here's the deal: Tickets for the Halloween Ball are 8 euro. HOWEVER, Drama are offering discount priced tickets to our members! 'Cos we looove our members, basically. So if you're a member of DCU Drama, you get to go to the Rocky Horror Picture Show AND the Halloween Ball for a ridiculously cheap price! Yay! Watch out for our stand in the HUB during the week! We will be hosting rehearsals this week, essentially to advise our audience WHEN you should throw stuff at the screen, HOW to do the Time Warp, and all that jazz. One of our members is casting an all-female show called "My Mother Said I Never Should," a tour-de-force for FOUR intrepid actresses. So get over to CG05, the Henry Grattan Building at 6pm this Tuesday and meet the Director! No other preparation is necessary, just show up! (you'd better be a girl though, sorry guys). MERCHANT OF VENICE: We were pleasantly surprised at the level of interest at DCU Drama's second stab at Shakespeare (we did Macbeth last year to great acclaim). To the extent that we need to have further auditons and callbacks to determine our cast. So get along to XG14 at 2pm wednesday and do just that! Hey Guys; As you may have heard, John Cannon has fallen quite ill, and we have no producer for the Rocky. So, we gotta get the action on now to deal with this. Here's what we need: -PRACTICES- We need at least two practices with the interested cast. I'm thinking Monday and Wednesday, maybe even Tuesday too. How 'bout we book rooms for Monday at 6pm and Wednesday at 2pm? Eoin, could you sort that out? Make sure the rooms have a bigish TV available! Also, I need maybe 30 copies of the script done out and copied. Shelley, If I send the scripts to you, could you do this? Sometime on Monday before 6 should be grand, and group copying doesn't take too long. I need to get a DVD player booked too, I'll get onto AV about that Monday. Also, I need as many of you as possible to help with rehersals. Can you pretty please come on down? It's fun, I swear! -PROPS- Can I action someone who's finished earlyish someday before Wednesday to get into town and get the following props? -200 Cheap lighters - (Should be able to find in pound shops for around 40e) -4/5 Packets of Cheap playing cards- -10/15 packs of Rice- (Tesco maybe cheapest) -Big box of 100 pairs of vinyl / plastic gloves- (Snappier the better, cheap) -Toliet paper (Lots of the cheapest, maybe Tescos / steal from DCU?) -Newspaper, loads of- Talk to Dave in Spar, he gives us old papers free. -Plastic goodies bags for props- We need about 200 of these too. Tescos, cheap. Ok, who can do this? It's kinda vital. We have 60 waterpistols in the Equiptment room thank god! -SCRIPT / FILM PROJECTION- Jason has excelled himself here, and got us the huge screen cheap. However, we also need to book out a projector and screen for the script. I would like someone with knowledge to put the script from DOC file format to colour coded PDF or equivilant format so we don't have to keep scrolling down, and can just hit a button. Phaxx, can I get you to do this? Who wants to let us use thier laptop...Bob... -PRIZES- We need Prizes for the following -Best dressed- -Worst dressed- -LEAST DRESSED- We can have an awards ceremony at the end of the night. The tackier the prizes,and the more sexual, the better! I suggest buying some penis / vagina related gimmicks at Funny Biz and wrapping them in gold ribbon, and writing the award titles in silver / gold pen. How about we buy the Penis flash (~12e) as a grand prize and fill it with Baileys or some "cock"tail? Shelley, I'll be in town briefly on Wednesday afternoon if you wanna come in with me. I kinda know the crap we should get! -PROMOTIONS / TICKET SALE- I think we have to really undercut the SU Prices, and e6 sounds good to me. But we need posters, and maybe a stand! Just a quik not about the socs ball. We will be getting 30 tickets. However, i've asked elaine to sort us out with 50, as i believe that we'll have no problem shifting them. However, wee problem, we can only afford to actually purchase 30 and all tickets have to paid for up front. We cannot buy 30, and use some of that money to buy another 20. if we wnat the other 20 we will need to use our own money, ie €900. IF anybody wants to contributeto this, or is rich enough to have€900 to spare, let me know,and ill give you the details so you can lodge your cash to the drama bank account. Also, as joe said, send out the Announce drama email tonight or tommorow morning at the latest, advertising that we will have at least 30 socs ball tickets to sell, get anyone who wants to reserve them to email me with name, mobile and email address. They can then pay for their ticket, with drama membership card, on Mon between 11 and 12, and 4 and 5 in the Hub outside the venue, where ill collect the cash!!! Also, could the admin of the announce drama list, please send my email about broadway, which is lying in the drama gmail account, asap!!!!!!!! Hey, Just wondering if maybe we could send out this week's announce-drama e-mail a bit early cos I'm sure the rest of ye are also being pestered by people wanting to know what the story is with the Socs Ball tickets. Maybe we should just send out a seperate one for about the Socs Ball but, whatever the case, can whoever sends it please include this: * * Auditions for One-Act Play ? Wednesday 28th October, 2pm XG01 (tbc) Anybody interested in being involved in an improvised one-act play is invited to come along to XG01 this Wednesday at 2pm *sharp* for a meeting. The show has the working-title 'The Young and The Restless on Sunset Beach Living Out the Days of Our Lives' and will pay homage to/completely rip the p*ss out of all of those cheesy American daytime soaps (evil twins, brain transplants and incest guaranteed!). All going well, the production will go forth to the 'One Act Wonder Festival' in St. Pat's later on in the semester. Those with little or no acting experience are especially welcome. Also, anyone who has no particular interest in acting but would still like to help come up with the crazy characters and ludicrous scenarios should definitely come along too. Hey Guys. Just a few updates. I mailed / faxed the yellow thingies and the pieces of paper with numbers and shiny stickers on them to our American friend Ms Cohen (no relation to good 'ol Leonard). I also had quite an amusing conversation with her, with her raving about "Oh mi God! You're REALLY calling from DUBLIN? In IRELAND? That is SOO Sweet!". I barely managed to avoid doing my whole Jihad Funkster routine, as I had a feeling that kind of cerebral humour is not apprieciated in New York :P Anyway, I registered the mail because the cheques are relativly big money. It came to under a fiver anyway, 'cause I sweet talked the evil wagon in the post office. Ok, Rocky Horror... I'm using the mailing list and sending a list of all those who got involvewd last year to John. I'll let him run with this and will gladly help out! All hands on deck for next weeks folks ;) Jay and I cast "Scars in their thighs". We can get up to 50 tickets if we ask Elaine now. Do we want that many? Could we sell them? Of course we could. But I absolutly feel that committee members & people who have worked hard for Drama should get their tickets first. People will attempt to bleed tickets for this, and we should have first dibs on the number WE want because we work the hardest, as do most society committee. I am sick of fuck balls who do little or nothing getting tickets over those that bust their balls. After we take what we need, we should decide who most deserves tickets and offer them first, THEN we should advertise to the general membership. Is this ok with everyone? If we got 50 and gave away 25/30 to general members I think this would be a good idea. We need feedback fast mind you. I think people like Lennox, Jason, John, Conor, Fiona, Aishy, Shivvy and Martin French(!) should be earmarked for tickets too, hard working saviors that they are! Secondaly, WE ARE DCU DRAMA! Let's make a scene. I'm looking for the most ridiculous suggestions for Socs Ball mayhem. Let's make this a night to remember. Please add your suggestions too to the following potential oddball theatrics! 1. Halfway through the meal, all the males leave and return dressed as penguins. 2. ...or women. 3. Start a random singsong. 4. Play the telephone game. 5. Stage a fight. 6. Order a stripper, with DCU Drama logo on her (or his ?) Body. 7. Do one act plays at strange intervals. 8. Engineer some Phythonesque moments. 9. Fake Orgasms. 10. Firebomb the Burlington. 11. Firebomb an Cumann Gaelach. 12. Firebomb Shelley's Rack. Add yours! Put an * beside ones you like.
