Hey all,
I know you're all busy studying, so I'll be as quick as can be.
As you may be aware Warpcon, an annual gaming convention held by UCC is
coming up on the 27th of January, and will end on the 29th of January
and Gamessoc are organising a group to go together.
Warpcon is an amazing convention, with Card Games, Board Games and RPGs
played all weekend, and the best part is that you don't even have to
bring any games with you, as there will be a large selection supplied.
Wargaming is also present at Warpcon with games running throughout the
weekend, so if you're a fan of Warhammer and the likes, don't forget to
bring your army! Warpcon is always a big and outrageously fun event and
it's a great way to blow off steam after the stress of exams.
The cost to members will be €16 for members and €26 for wargamers,
which will cover you for the entrance to warpcon and the accomodation
which is to be paid when we meet for the bus journey to Cork. We will be
staying in the Cork International Youth Hostel. We will also be getting
the bus down, which will cost €19 for a return ticket and will be
partially refunded at the start of next semester.
We will be arranging meeting and travel times to Cork closer to the
date, so we'll let you know
If you're interested in going please let us know as soon as possible
and please let us know if you'll be going as a wargamer or not. Further
information about Warpcon can be found at www.warpcon.com

Alright everyone, it's that time of year again! Christmas is just
around the corner and that of course means it's time for our Christmas
BYOPC LAN! The LAN will
be taking place in 2 weeks from the 17th to the 18th of December. It
will start at 12pm on Saturday and run until 12pm on Sunday. To sign up
go to the link below
and follow the instructions
http://www.byopc.dcu.ie
What is a BYOPC LAN I hear some of you asking? It's a 24 hour event
where you Bring Your Own Pc to the Helix and we play games for 24 hours!
Why? Becuase it's
fun! The BYOPC LAN is an event we run once a semester with between 3
and 4 tournaments and prizes for the winners of each! At a cost of only
€10 it's very much
worth it.
Just like the previous LAN it will be taking place in the Helix. [WHERE
IN THE HELIX?] Committee members will be on hand to help you bring your
pc and equipment
up from the entrance, which is through the Stage Door in the helix. In
case you don't know where the Stage Door is in the Helix, here is a map
showing the
entrance.
http://games.dcu.ie/campus.gif
Keep an eye on the weekly announce email and the website as we'll be
announcing which tournaments are going to be held, once the decision has
been made. There
will of course be some very interesting prizes for these tournaments,
so get practicing in order to get your hands on them.
Here's a list of things to bring:
- Your PC
- cat5 (ethernet) cable
- Power Extension Cable
- €10 entry fee
- Food!
If it happens that your PC isn't powerful enough to run something like
Left for Dead 2, fear not, as we will be setting up consoles and
traditional games, so you
have no excuse not to come, we will keep you occupied and stave off
boredom.
And last but not least, since it's Christmas, Santa hats, costumes,
lights, etc are encouraged and approved of!

It's time for the christmas party and Santa's coming to visit Gamessoc
this Thursday! He'll have presents and everything! This party is in
association with several other societies, such as RedBrick and
Paranormal. It starts at 8 in the Slipper, if you don't know where that
is, a group of us will be heading over at about quarter to 8 so if you
wish, you can meet us in the Hub before we go over.
Of course, as the Christmas party is on Thursday, there will be no lab
gaming this week, sorry.
- BYOPC LAN | 17th/18th December | The Helix
That's right! The Christmas LAN is a coming, and so pack up your rig
and bring it in for a veritable cornucopia of gaming! There will be a
separate email with all the details for the LAN, so don't fret.

Hoodies are being ordered on Monday so if you wish to order one this is
your last chance
That's it for this week, but don't forget that the C&S ball is on
