This Wednesday the 25th, Games Soc will be running our first big tournament of the year. From 2-5pm in the Seminar Room in The Hub we'll be finding out who is DCU's best Halo player. With prizes for the top 3 players and goodies and refreshments for all who enter, it promises to be a great event! This was one of our biggest and most popular tournaments last year so come along and take part. Entry fee is 3 and sign up begins at 1:30.
--- Lab Gaming ---
We had a packed lab in C206 last week and it promises to be just as full again this Thursday. From 6-10pm we'll be playing Counter-Strike, Quake, Day of Defeat, Age of Empires, Starcraft, Enemy Territory and others in C206. Make sure you come early to get a seat as there are only 30 places available.

Hey all,
Hope you're enjoying the year so far. We had a great turnout for our Console and Lab Gaming events last week and we provided some very popular entertainment at the Redbrick Fresher's Ball and the Karting Social Night.
Here's what's happening in Games Soc this week:
--- Console Gaming ---
We'll be running our weekly Console Gaming event on Wednesday in The Venue, inside The Hub. This is running from 2 - 5, so come along and join in. Games played will include Halo 2, Mario Kart, Guitar Hero, Pro Evo 5, Soul Calibur, Super Smash Bros and more! As always, you can bring along any equipment or games you want to play. You can also bring your DS or PSP for some wireless multiplayer fun.
--- Lab Gaming ---
Last week saw the return of Lab Gaming to DCU. We're now in the bigger and better C206 lab and games on the machines will include Counter Strike, Quake, Enemy Territory, Age of Empires II, Starcraft and others.! This is running from 6 - 10pm on Thursday and we had a full house last week, so come early to get your seat!
--- INTERLAN ---
DCU Games Society are proud to announce our involvement in InterLAN 2006. Working with DIT, we'll be running Ireland's BYOPC Intervarsity gaming event, with 150 gamers in Ard Scoil Ris, Griffith Avenue, Marino. Hey folks,
First off I just want to extend a warm welcome to all of our new members
and also a welcome back to all of our renewed members. As many of you may
already know this has been the most successful Clubs And Societies Day in
our history. Not only have we doubled our membership since last year but
were also the largest we have EVER been! As such you can expect an even
bigger effort from us on the committee for the upcoming year.
Right so, lets get down to it, its events that you guys want and its
events that youre going to get and as many of you saw over the last
couple of days, weve had a pretty active first week back! First off, on
Tuesday we were at the Redbrick Freshers Ball in The Vaults in town
providing some console entertainment for the masses. That went down really
well and all in all a great night was had by all some of us even had TOO
good a night. 
Next, on Wednesday we had our first official Console Event of the year
upstairs in the Hub in the Seminar Room. Our Xboxs, PS2 and Gamecubes were
all in attendance and we had a nice crowd in there for the duration of the
day. As some of you noticed the event was slightly shorter than usual,
this however was due to a large amount of room bookings that day but rest
assured they will be back running at the usual time of 1pm to 5pm next
week. One point to note however is that the venue next week will not be
the Seminar Room. Were still not 100% sure where its going to be but
well let you guys known as soon as we know. Again well have all our
consoles there so pop in during your lunch or anytime during the day for a
game. As usual if theres any game that we dont have that youd like to
play then just bring it along and well pop it on.
Last night saw us run our first event with the Karting Society in the New
Bar where we again provided some console based entertainment for those in
attendance. The event kicked off at 9pm and had free wine and food as well
as us some Mario Kart and Halo 2 for everyone there. Again, it was a great
night and will definitely be done again, next time even bigger and better!
So thats a lot of console action I can hear you say, well not to worry as
tonight sees the start of our PC Lab Gaming sessions in the Henry Grattan
Building from 6pm to 10pm. Following the success of these events last year
CSD have kindly given us the use of the larger C206 lab with its shiny new
computers for the event. Games played will range from Counter Strike and
Quake 3 to Age Of Empires II and Starcraft with some healthy doses of
Trackmania and Enemy Territory thrown in for good measure. Demand is
always high for these events so come early to reserve a seat for the
night.
Also, we may have hinted at some of plans for this year's first Bring Your
Own PC LAN event while some of you were at our stand on Clubs And
Societies Day. Well as promised you guys will be getting some juicy info
about our biggest event to date some time next week so stay tuned!
Anyway, keep on eye on both your mailboxes and indeed our forums at
http://games.dcu.ie/forums for all the latest info on our events. Hell
even if you want to stop by for a chat the forums are open 24/7 and youre
bound to find some topic of interest while youre there. 

To all who were looking forward to our Summer LAN this weekend we have
some very bad news. Due to circumstances beyond our control we have
had to cancel this event.
We would like to apologise to all our membership who were looking
forward to this event, but we would like to remind everyone that this
will not effect any of our other events in the coming year. We look
forward to seeing as many of you at our next event.
And don't forget to join us on Clubs & Soc's days next month.

Hey folks,
Just a quick mail regarding the Games Soc Hoodies. As some of you may
know they finally arrived on Monday and are now available for collection
from campus. If you want to collect yours then just mail us at
games(a)redbrick.dcu.ie and we'll arrange a collection time. Other than that
we can bring them along to the LAN if you're attending or we can just hold
onto them for you until college starts and you can collect them at any of
our upcoming events.
Oh yes, and they look awesome. :)
Speaking of the LAN by the way, we'll be releasing the last few details of
this event by the end of the week so stay tuned till then.

Howdy folks,
Just a quick mail to let you guys know that the hoodies have officially
been ordered and will be with us within the fortnight. A small number of
you have emailed us asking to pay at a later date and since we're so
lovely we have agreed. One thing to note however, you will *not* be able
to get your hoodie until you've paid and we'd still appreciate it if you
could get the money to us asap.
In other news, as I'm sure you're aware our End Of Summer BYOPC is on its
way. We're currently finalizing the plans for it so expect a mail about
that in the next week or so.

Howdy folks,
As many of you know we've had our Hoodies available for order for the last
couple of weeks. The final date for placing orders has now been set as
Wednesday, August 2nd after which no more will be taken until after Clubs
And Societies Day. As I said in the last mail however, subsequent orders
will depend on there being sufficient demand so if you want one of these
guys, we advise you to get one now.
For those of you who have already contacted us and given us your details,
this date is also the one which you must have paid by in order for your
hoodie to be confirmed.
Details on how to order and pay can still be found on the forums here,

Hey folks,
First of all on behalf of the entire committee I want to make sure you
guys are all having a great summer. Needless to say we're still busy
behind the scenes organising our events for the upcoming year and believe
me when I tell you, they're going to be bigger and better than ever.
Anyway first things first, I'd like to finally announce the availability
of the Games Soc hoodies which, as some of you may know, we've been
talking about for quite some time.
Firstly, there are going to be two different designs available in two
different colours so you'll have plenty of choices if you choose to
purchase one. Images and pricing can be found on our forums here ->
http://games.redbrick.dcu.ie/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=1269
Orders will be taken in a few weeks but we're announcing it now to give
you guys and gals plenty of time to get your orders in. The first batch
will be purchased on a pre-order basis given that we want to have them for
the start of the new semester. As such we'll be taking orders either in
cash or through payment into our account, details of which can be found
off the main page, if that suits better. If you're living in Dublin then
we can arrange to get your hoodie to you when they arrive otherwise we'll
hold them until the Semester starts and you can collect them whenever you
are back in college.
Note, any subsequent orders will only be made once the minimum order with
the printing company has been reached so if you really want one we suggest
you get one in the initial batch.
We think they look great and we've made sure that we got the best possible
deal for you guys so hopefully we'll be seeing lots of these guys around
campus in the coming year. :)
In other news, we've finally gotten the go ahead for our End Of Summer
BYOPC LAN event. Once we have the final details fixed up we'll send you
guys another mail about it. Anyway, as usual keep an eye on the site and
forums for more info on the events and any other news with the society.
